Someone I know was just bit by what they think was a Brown Dog Tick. I've heard that the American Dog Tick can transmit rocky mountain spotted fever and ehrlichiosis.

Does anybody know if the Brown Dog Tick transmits any infectious bacteria to humans? I tried to talk him into getting on abx just to be safe but he wasn't buying it.

Personally ... I don't trust ANY tick!!! I've heard of plenty of people who think they got Lymed by a dog tick. I wouldn't think any certain variety would be the only tick to be able to carry diseases.

I agree with Lymetoo.

And even if not Lyme, still can get pretty sick with ehrlichiosis and a multitude of others. And, if like me, immune system may hold it off for years when suddenly a stressor such as surgery allows the buggers to wreak havoc and suddenly you're so sick you are totally debilitated for a very long time. TEll him - I was like him and was never concerned even though I had tick bites on a regular basis for years.

I got lyme disease from a wood tick, which is a common dog tick. There are not deer ticks in this state.

I immediately got the EM rash and was very sick. I did not leave the state and was not infected at any other time. I am 100% certain I was transmitted lyme and co-infections by that bite. I tested positive for Bb, babs duncani, and ehrichlia.

In the book Cure Unknown, she writes that scientists at Rocky Mountain Lab here in Hamilton MT are working on identifying the strains in the wood tick. Well, I have identified them.

The answer is "yes".

All ticks can carry Lyme disease.

Absolutely it carries many diseases! I got bitten again by an American Dog Tick and got a bad relapse of Lyme, Babesia, and Ehrlichia (and maybe more). And, believe it or not, I was on IV rocephin at the time, and added in doxy within 1 1/2 days.

But still I got Bell's Palsy, a little bit of which never went away, terrible Babs sx, etc., etc.

And, the American Dog Tick is indistinguishable from a Lone Star Tick, which is in all areas of the US, not just the South.

If your friend doesn't listen, he may learn a very hard lesson. So many people don't want to hear it. If they had any idea . . .
