Because of my c diff, amoeba, and giardia infections, the inf. disease Dr. put me on flagyl. I had already started a herbal parasitic cleanse by Gaiai and had been on reservatrol. So I still take that, Dr.L my new lyme doctor said to finish the flagyl and paramomycin drugs the other doctor had me on then she will have a plan for me then. I didn't get a chance to ask her about the antiparasitic herbs or anything because we ran out of time and she said she needed to study my records before advising me on a new drug regimen. This is my fifth day of flagyl at 500mg 3x day. And no other antibiotics, I am off other abx but I am feeling like a herx, my joints hurt, my fatigue level is increasing every day, I am getting those anxiety feelings that the mino/plaq/zith I had been on seemed to quell. Thinking its the bart, also having trouble breathing like air hunger today-never really had that one before. Not sure if I should call her office, stop taking the herbs, or what... Any suggestions? This is the first time I have taken Flagyl....since testing positive for Lyme....

500mg 3X/day is quite a hefty does. Not unheard of, just a heck of a lot. You may want to put a call in to your doc; perhaps ask her about lowering the dose?

Flagyl kills the cyst form of lyme. So, you are most likely herxing on it. This is a lyme herx, nothing to do with bartonella.
You may need to stick to that dose of flagyl to kill the intestinal infections.
A herx can easily last a week or more.
Suggest you detox as much as you can. Drink lots of water with lemons squeezed into it, etc.
Since the ID doc gave you the flagyl, you will likely have to call him to see if you are allowed to lower it. Chances are, he knows nothing about lyme and herxing.

Hi, I am pulsing flagyl every other week with biaxin and continual mino and my dose of flagyl is higher than yours.
It sounds like you are herxing. The first pulse left me in bed at the end of the week for 2 days the next time for a day or so. I am now getting joint pain, fatigue and weakness.
I pulse again this coming week so we'll see what happens...I, like you, question all of it but your symptoms sound like a herx.

My guess is that the flagyl is also working on babs or the F lab protozoa. I just posted on another thread about using a combo of clindamycin, flagyl and doxycycline for babesia in dogs.
Hubby just started IV flagyl -- 500 mg 1 time daily. He went from sleeping 9 hours a night to 12 hours most days. He also ran a fever for a couple of days.
I would probably call the doc. If you think it is too much then I would try cutting back the dose instead of stopping the med totally.
Hang in there.

thanks all for the ideas and support seems like herx is the common response, will drink more water and lemon, the inf disease doctor knows nothing about lyme...odd but true. Calling him will likely be unproductive, Will up my antianxiety meds too that might help to, today less fatigue but more anxiety.I checked the dosage 500 mg 3x day is pretty much standard dosing...so just 5 more days of that..

I am on the same Flagyl dose as you and doing OK w/ it. It took me a few days to adjust to it but now it is fine. Hope you get some answers from your dr.

I was on drugs for Bart with another dr., plaq, mino and zith, and I just stopped those cold turkey because of the c diff infection. The new LlMD wanted to run blood tests for babesia and bart that my other llmd dr never did. And she put me on florastor and I am on 3 theralac per day to try to clear up the c diff. Hence not on any treatments for bart or lyme just the flagyl which I think is not just killing the other infections but giving me a herx @AnnaOD2- What are you taking flagyl with?
