It is believed this bath may be helpful in assisting your body in dealing with radiation absorption or exposure. Many have reported it to be especially helpful following plane trips or in the event of coming down with a cold. It may be used anytime you want to aid your body in its efforts at detoxification.

Procedure:

1. Soak in a bath to which you have added 2 lbs. of salt and 2 lbs of baking soda (use rock salt).

2. Soak for a minimum of 20 minutes, during which time you have soaked your head and face as well as the rest of your body.

3. Drain the tub, then shower as usual.

Take care.

Today I researched on Pubmed: www.pubmed.gov

If you enter into the Pubmed search box "milk thistle + radiation" you will get about 20 studies coming up.

Apparently it's used in cancer therapy to shield from radiation therapy side effects, according to one study on the site and also according to the book Herb, Nutrient and Drug Interactions, printed in 2008.

One Pubmed study said that laboratory rats exposed to UV radiation showed protection and no cancer tumors formed. This was not the only study saying much the same thing, multiple studies on the website ditto'd. It' s interesting when there is a cluster of studies which all say the same thing.

There are many studies on Pubmed about milk thistle and its anti-tumor, anti-cancer benefits. If you enter milk thistle + cancer into the Pubmed search box, you will see. Lots of studies and information about this.

It may be a herb that will help us with the radiation leak disaster.

I also read that potassium iodide was only helpful in Chernobyl to kids under 4 years old. Not so beneficial for adults, apparently.

And the Americans have bought out the world supply of potassium iodide, while it is the Japanese who really need it!

Please send your p. i. and milk thistle to Japan!

And we can take milk thistle here to help ourselves.

Thank you all.

PS for anybody who is interested:

Linda Rector Page, ND has a page in bullet points (lots of info on one page) about protecting the body from radiation. This book, Healthy Healing, is a reference source in most healthfood stores nation-wide, and some stores will let you photocopy info from the book.

Just look in the index and you will find it.

I have found this book to be invaluable to have around the house. Lots of naturopathic self-care for many types of ailments, nutritional and detox info, more.

Hope this helps someone else.

I'd be interested in giving this a shot if someone could tell me how similar this is to an Epsom Salt bath. I do not handle the Epsom Salt baths well... :[
