im suffering from intense stomach pain after taking doxy. What has worked if you had the same problem?

I always take it in the middle of a big meal.
Eat 1/2 the meal, take the doxy and eat the other 1/2 of the meal.
Take lots of good probiotics at least 2 hours away from antibiotics.
I used to get some nausea with doxy even when taking with a meal, but over time, that went away.

If your insurance company will cover Doryx, it is an enteric-coated, delayed-release form of Doxy that is much gentler to the stomach, and avoids other side effects too (like tinnitus).
It's pricy, but you can always try to request special consideration. It's frequently used for acne, so I think that's why it's often not covered.
A generic was approved in December, but does not yet seem to be in the pipeline for consumers. It's manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals under the name of doxycyline hyclate DR. You may want to keep an eye on that, to see when it becomes available.

There is now a generic Doryx. Along with all of the other suggestions, make sure and sit up for at least 1/2 an hour after taking it.
Before I learned about Lyme and abx, I thought taking an achidopholis pearl was enough in the way of probiotics. It's not!
Try to take at least 100,000 billion per serving, and take it twic per day. Theralac, VSL#3, Prescript Assist Pro are three that have worked for us. Also, Saccro B is a good one to throw in.
Also, when my daughter and husband started doxy, they started with small doses and built up gradually to the full dose. You can try once a day, in the evenings, or twice a day, then skip a day and so on...
