I have some Lugol's 5% iodine and potassium iodide solution and have been taking it for radiation damage prevention. However it seems to be giving me headaches as well as tightness around my throat and shoulders.
The headaches are worst in the areas of my head that are swollen and effected by lyme/bart. Same areas that gave me screaming headaches when I started rifampin.
My understanding is that excess iodine can easily be sloughed off. Is this not the case? Am I herxing? Should I stop with the iodine?

May be release of bromines. According to a famous alternative doc in my area, iodine pushes toxic bromine out.

I don't know what it may be technically but if anything makes you feel ill - cut it out or cut back the dosage. Add it back every other day or every few days.
Each person is different.

Are you taking it under your doctors recommendations or just something you decided to do on your own?
I take it too, but my doctor suggested I take six-7 drops every other day or every three days. I don't eat iodized salt and get very little iodine in my diet, so that's why I take it.

Did you try it on your skin, far away from the head? Try lower dose and several times a day.

Looks like I don't have any of the overdose symptoms. I decided to take it on my own. I ingested it.
