I saw an endo dr yesturday that said my prolactin labs were high...asking if i had an mri...i think he is looking for a tumor on my pituitary gland...but nothing was there...
does this go along with lyme at all?
also, he said i had an enlarged thyroid? i think i have low thyroid due to my weight gain...so he checking some more tests...
if it all pans out to be nothing by the labs...does lyme cause any of this?
thanks

Did you get the MRI done? If there was a prolactinoma, it would show up on MRI. Another cause of high serum prolactin levels is medications such as major tranquilizers.
Are you on any medication that could do it? I have not heard of Lyme causing a high prolactin level and I think that is the least likely possibility but not impossible.

Dian Read up on "empty sella syndrome" and see if your situation matches up. Very interesting because this topic has come up a lot recently. I didn't know much about this until I read my CT scan report and saw "partially empty sella" on the findings. My thyroid is jacked, but haven't had an issue with prolactin levels.
Hope this helps!

For me, yes - high prolactin - it happened four years after the bite - the level went to 220 - supposed to be around 20.
They did all their tests, including MRI, and thought I had a tumor. I had brain surgery, and the surgeon found hyperplasia, not a tumor. He declared me a medical mystery.
When I found out 20 years later this was Lyme, I emailed him: mystery solved. What? he shot back. Lyme, I wrote. Him: we never knew about that. Me: I know, but do me a favor and tell your colleagues!
So, don't be so fast to jump on the tumor theory. Lyme messes with the entire brain, including the pituitary.
I got sick from taking bromocriptine, the drug that's supposed to take down the level.
However, I am actually lowering the prolactin level now!!!
I am on clindamycin antibiotics, 150mg/day. Also mangosteen juice, noni juice and grape seed extract capsules. Those last three are strong antioxidants that can scarf up free radicals created by inflammation.
So my guess: I'm both treating the Lyme bacteria, and reducing the byproducts of inflammation.
My prolactin levels have been dropping from 220 to 150 to 100 - can't wait to see what it'll be next time we check.
