So here's my story
Male 35, tick bite about 1.5 years ago
red inflammation around bite but not typical bulls eye, about the size of a quarter clearing after 2-3 weeks
About a month after the tick bite I started getting strange shooting muscular pain and some other stuff but I'll be honest I cant remember what it was but I looked up Lyme because I rememebred the tick and it seemed to fit...As I don't have insurance I went to the walk in clinic and had to convince the doctor that there was even a possibility in was lyme, he wanted to have me get screened but he said it was going to be $200 and was unreliable so basically I talked him into just treating me with a clinical diagnosis so he did, sort of, he gave me 100mg of doxy for 10 days which from what I have now read seems to have been far less than would be required.
The symptoms seemed to subside though so I didnt think anything of it and thought I was good...over the last year however the symptoms below have developed and gotten bothersome.
Current symptoms: muscle twitches, mostly eye and neck, sometimes both eyes and neck at the same time, knee pain (no history of injury and no swelling just pain), always tired, trouble fucusing, generally cranky though historically my nick name is Mr. smiley (yes really). Night sweats but I sweat alot always so not sure if this is relevent.
ALthough everyone I know thinks I'm nuts and still without insurance I ordered myself the Lyme test online and went to have blood taken. THe results were
IgG p41 present all other IgGs absent
IgM p23 present and IgM p39 present IgM p41 absent.
I would think after a year and a half I would have some IgG's showing so I'm a bit confused has anyone here had a similar experience?? Any support would be great Thanks!!

Oday, I had a positive IgG of 41 and IgM of 23 by the standard western blot.. My pcp said lyme. Then had the Igenex had 3 positive IgG and 1 positive IgM. I don't understand my test as the doctor wants more. Bart and Babs were normal ..The docs say lyme but as yet no treatment.

I do not recall a tick bite .. Did test positive for EBV so not sure what is going on with me. My main symptoms are balance, sinus, ear issues.. depression/anxiety and some bone pain..

Wish I could help.

That's Lyme, and where there is Lyme there is also a very high probability of co-infections depending on where you live. If you live in Florida, the risk is lower, but still, you should be seeing a specialist who deals with tick born infections and associated problems.

Check your PM. You'll need to do some research to figure out who you want to see.

"With most infections, your immune system first forms IgM antibodies, then in about 2 to 4 weeks, you see IgG antibodies. In some infections, IgG antibodies may be detectable for years.

Because Borrelia burgdorferi is a chronic persistent infection that may last for decades, you would think patients with chronic symptoms would have positive IgG Western blots.

But actually, more IgM blots are positive in chronic borreliosis than IgG. Every time Borrelia burgdorferi reproduces itself, it may stimulate the immune system to form new IgM antibodies.

Some patients have both IgG and IgM blots positive. But if either the IgG or IgM blot is positive, overall it is a positive result."

--from Western Blot explanation:

http://tinyurl.com/ffn3x

also from the above link:

"Band 39: Unknown what this antigen is, but based on research at the National Institute of Health (NIH), other Borrelia (such as Borrelia recurrentis that causes relapsing fever), do not even have the genetics to code for the 39 kDa antigen, much less produce it. It is the most specific antibody for borreliosis of all."

My results were identical to yours from one lab. I have a diagnosis of Lyme Disease. If I were you, I'd go to a Lyme-Literate MD for proper diagnosis and treatment. 100mg Doxy for 10 days is nowhere near enough to get rid of Lyme.

Band 39 is the most specific for lyme. I'd say positive. The sweats are either Babesia or Bartonella. There are no sweats with lyme.

--------------------
Bite date ?
2/10 symptoms began
5/10 dx'd, after 3 months numerous test and doctors

IgM Igenex +/CDC +
+ 23/25, 30, 31, 34, 41, 83/93

Currently on:

Currently at around 95% +/- most days.

Hello,

I just had some blood work done as I've had chronic back pain for 5 years. Very sporadic, very painful (at times). Tried yoga, massages, chiropractor, nothing has worked. So I went to the doctor, had some imaging done which revealed some pars defects, spondylothesis (sp.), and some other minor things. My blood work on the other hand came back with the following:

IgG P41 Ab - PRESENT
IgG P39 Ab - PRESENT
IgM P23 Ab - PRESENT

Then it says, "3 antibodies present, high risk for possible lyme exposure. recommend follow up"

When I called to schedule follow-up, the nurse said it was nothing urgent and I can't be seen for a week. Is this something I should be worried about? Anyone have insight here with these antibodies?

Band 39 is SPECIFIC FOR LYME

Yes, nothing else can make that show up on your test!

Feel free to continue the conversation here, but the best place to ask questions is in a new thread.

Western Blot Explanation
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/42077

From the above thread:

"In my clinical experience, if a patient has symptoms suspicious for borreliosis, and has one or more of the following bands, there is a very high probability the patient has borreliosis.

These bands are 18, 22, 23-25, 28, 30, 31, 34, 37, 39, 41, 83, and 93.

[---- from DR C's update from 2005 ---
----The significant antibodies, in my opinion, are the 18, 23-25, 28, 30, 31, 34, 39, 58, 66 and 93.----]"
