OK. I'm on Clindy and I've seen warnings about c-diff and taking good probiotics. I have purchased VSL #3 --- how much of that do you take per day?

And what is c-diff anyway? lol

clostridium difficile .. a very serious infection of the intestinal tract

VERY hard to get rid of. You do not want it!! It can actually kill you if your immune system is compromised.

Take as much VSL as you can afford. I take the VSL#3 DS .. so that's 900 billion CFU's twice a day.

I get a prescription for it. Saves a ton of money.

Yikes. Do you know why you can get it when on clindy, or is this something you can get on any of the abx's?

I've got the VSL #3 450 billion bacteria per sachet.

I had no idea you could get a prescription of it! I'll have to talk to my LLMD about that.

So, not eating sugar, taking this VSL #3... anything else to keep that infection from coming on me?

Incredible how many germs/bugs/bacteria/creepy crawly's there are in the world!

I got a script for VSL #3 but insurance still wouldn't pay.

S. Boulardii is especially important to prevent C. Diff.

I dont have c-diff and I use the VSL 3 and Itake 4 tabs every evening. Each capsule contains 225 billion...I think it has helped me the most and I have tried many different kinds of probiotics.

Also, what has been helpful for me is drinking coconut milk kefir with the VSL 3 at night.

I have been taking Clindamycin for some time, and I have not had any yeast issues. I use one packet of prescription VSL#3DS daily, and I take four pills of Nystatin daily.

nelly .. I would get the s. boulardii to make sure. Any antibiotic can cause c.diff but clindamycin is worse than the others at causing it. You must have the probiotics, and the s.boulardii is extra protection for c.diff.

You need to call your prescription service to see if VSL#3 DS is on their list of approved prescriptions. It has to be the DS for them to cover it.

mookie.. If you'll read the label carefully, you'll see that it's 225 per SERVING .. which is two pills per day. So it's 225 divided by 2.

you absolutely must be taking florastor twice a day. get the s. boulardii from vitacost. much much cheaper.

i take theralac and vsl#3 plus the phillips colon health and the florastor every day.

it's been since last year since i had the c. diff but i never want to go through that again. luckily i was not hospitalized cause i didn't get that bad, but man i was sick. iwas on biaxin and flagyl when i got it.

better safe than sorry.

VSL#3 Double Strength (DS) is prescription. If your insurance pays for part of it, you should only have a co-pay. It is great quality.

There is an OTC version and a prescription version.

Here is the OTC:

VSL#3
http://www.vsl3.com/order.asp

If you want the prescription, ask your doctor. I called my prescription service first to make sure it was covered. Then asked my dr for a script.

The VSL#3 DS is the prescription version.

Florastor is best but the second one may work just as well... I don't know for sure. But both are s.boulardii.
