I did something stupid. I went horseback riding on a sunny day and forgot to apply any sunblock. After I had ridden for about 20 minutes or so I started feeling a stinging sensation which was my wake-up call! I turned the horse around and headed back to the barn at that point, but it was too late. My face, neck, and hands were all that was exposed. I am on doxycycline.

This was about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I developed a rash on my hands and instead of getting better, it seems to be getting worse and itches like crazy and is tender. Can I just wait this out and expect it to go away on its own?

Anyone with similar experience?

Im on doxy and forget also sometimes. Two weeks ago I got a blister on my forehead after being in the sun, today my face got sunburned so quickly. Im not used to being sun sensitive yet.

Do you ever get bubbles under your skin like that? looks like eczema. I used to get eczema really bad on my hands, with bubbles filled with fluid under the skin. If you itch it too much they can burst and cause pain and burning. I'd get it checked by a dermatologist if you can, just to be sure.

Nope, have never had eczema and the burn I got was pretty bad. My face peeled and my nose and cheeks looked like someone took a blow torch to them. The rash started about three days after the burn. I do burn easily, but I have never gotten blisters except on one occasion many, many years ago when I fell asleep on an air mattress out in ocean [Embarrassed] .

I am pretty sure it is from the doxy, but was wondering if anybody else had it and if they just rode it out. It seems to get better, then worse, then better, etc., and it seems to be trying to spread.

My husband had a similar experience with nasty burns like yours looks while on Doxy, BUT none of itchiness or worsening you describe. Geesh, I don't know why it'd be getting worse... Have you called or seen your/a doc about it? Perhaps it's time to do so since it's not healing as expected.

Are you putting some kind of burn salve or ointment on it in the meantime?

I e-mailed doc (100 miles away) and he said, of course, no steroids and to just use Benadryl. So far though, it has not gone outside the areas that were burned on my hands. My whole hand wasn't burned because of the way I hold the reins when riding.

I guess I will give it another week and see what it does, and if it gets worse or no better, I will contact him again.

I have been using various moisturizers and lotion with aloe. I haven't wanted to take Benadryl as I already have trouble enough getting my work done because of drowsiness without having the extra sedation that Benadryl would cause [sleepy] .

That is exactly what my hands looked like. From doxy and sun. Started red, scaly and turned to bumps/blisters. Give it a week or so to go away.

I've had it too. I actually used cortisone cream on it to help with the itching.

Mine also went away in about a week. I found the spot on my hand that got burned is now extremely sensitive to the sun.

Looks exactly like the doxy rash I got on my hands and fingers a couple years ago. In that case I was outside but it was a very overcast day...I still got the doxy rash.

Mine just had to go away on it's own, I remember it did take awhile. Try to keep out of the sun [Frown]
If you can, wear gloves when you have to be outside.
