I think Zith may be causing me ear issues.

I've heard no. Maybe one inhibits the other? Not sure if I actually read that...

Yes, Biaxin can be used instead of Zithromax. Tinnitus is a potential side effect of both meds. If Zith is causing a problem for you it would be worth a try to change and see if your symptoms resolve.

I had to stop zith due to ear ringing.
Switched to biaxin.
Never had ear ringing on it and I took it for over one year.

My doctor said Biaxin is better. I'm on Doxy, Biaxin, Mepron, Artemisin, and a few supplements, like probiotics and multi's. I think what the doc said was that the amount of Zith that one would actually need to do the job is too much for a person to take. I really don't know.
But I think the Biaxin is giving me another 5-10% that I didn't have.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

I too had ear issues while on IV Zith but on orals I was alright until recently. So I too had to be swapped over to Biaxin.
My LLMD said that Biaxin doesn't seem to have the same ear problems and SO FAR I haven't encountered it. Good luck!

LLMD called me last night and said that I should go off the Zith for 3 days and see if it gets better.
He said I don't have to worry about drug resistance or superbugs because they zith stays in your system for a few days..
