I grew up in Japan and we used to visit beautiful Nara all the time. There are the many, many deer who roam freely through temple areas, etc. There is food in penny-machines so that tourists can feed the deer. Often, trained deer will bow for the food before taking it from people.
If memory serves me right, it would seem like the place would be flush with ticks and fleas on the deer.
Is it the same now?
