Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
Anyone familiar with this? I get this in my gut. A large pulse right in middle of stomach. and I can tell the blood vessels have been weakened.
I suspect Bart but I found this online....
"I do know that the Rickettsias do cause aneurysms. Q-Fever known to cause abdominal aortic aneurysm and RMSF Thoracic aortic aneurysm.
Coxiella burnetti - Q. Fever Fever, malaise, anorexia endocarditis (infection of the heart valves), abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Respiratory symptoms (usually dry) cough, shortness of breath, and chest pain, maculopapular rash
- myocarditis, headache, confusion, and neck stiffness, wheezing can be present in patients with pneumonia, cardiac murmurs
- extreme tiredness and weakness, even after minor exercise, muscle pains, headaches, fever, and depression
Rocky_Mountain_spotted_fever aka Rickettsia rickettsii fever, nausea, vomitting, severe headache, aneurysm (Thoracic), muscle pain, lack of appetite, followed by development of rash."

Aneuryms can be extremely dangerous. If you think you have one, you need to see a doctor ASAP!

Is Rickettsia the same thing as Q-Fever and RMSF?

You wouldn't feel anything if you had an abdominal aneurysm....unless it was on the verge of rupture or rupturing. Most are incidental findings on CT scan when getting something else checked out.
Most grow at a slow rate and never rupture....which is when one has to really worry and trust me....you would know without a doubt that something was seriously wrong and not be taking the time to make a post about it on here.
The pulsating involved with a AAA is abnormal and *very* prominent. You can see it on the persons abdomen. You would also have accompanying symptoms such as upper back pain, between the shoulder blades, chest pain, dizziness, SOB etc...
With all that said, if you really do think that this is something to be concerned about, then I second the advice given to see a doctor ASAP! I am just giving my own opinions based on my experience so don't take it as advice.
I will also just add in that I have pulsating heartbeat in my abdomen. In *some* people, this is completely normal. I cannot even lay on my belly because it is just to darn bothersome.
I'm treating for bart though, so know you got me wondering if that could be a contributing factor. But I am also very thin and know that, that plays a part in why I feel it as much as I do.

When I had all my stomach problems years ago (before lyme), my doctor noticed he could also feel/hear a large pulse in the center of my stomach. I had this all checked out by an ultrasound and ct scan.
It turned out that since I'm very skinny....you could just hear/feel this much easier. As Stillwater said, its fairly normal in thin people.
Do you have any ohter symptoms?

still and txgirl,
Ya there's no doubt it has to do with how skinny I am.
But I do notice it's much more powerful at times (and usually around Bart herx/flares)
Sort of worries me because I know how serous it can be. And when I look up causes of aneurysms (weakness in arterie walls) that's EXACTLY what Bart does.
And sometimes it feels like my brain is swelling! Though I've heard Babs can do that.
Also (and this is prolly my anxiety right now lol) the symptoms for cerebral aneurysms...
Symptoms for an aneurysm that has not ruptured:
Fatigue Loss of perception Loss of balance Speech problems
Symptoms for a ruptured aneurysm:
Severe headaches Loss of vision Double vision Neck pain and/or stiffness Pain above and/or behind the eyes

i have went to the ER for other reasons and the ER doctor has commented: "you have a heck of an aortic pulse".
Mine was observed by the eye alone.
several scans and no aneurysm. it has subsided a lot over the years...I was never 'skinny', in excellent physical shape...blah, blah.
for me, part of my infection...which one??? that is anyones guess
good luck and get it checked out!

feelfit,
Thanks. Did you ever have swelling at the base of head/neck?
And feelings like your brain was mildly swollen?
It's all so confusing because I know it's probably just Bart and Babs.
How much I hate them

I often feel like my brain is swollen, and I definitely have headaches/pain/swelling at the base of the head/neck. I thought this was babs?

Ya, it probably is
I just worry (this has only come on late with me)
I stopped the anti-parasitics I was on for 6 months. Because I'm enticing Lyme and Cos to come out to play : )
So I guess I'm going to have to deal with some old symptoms for awhile

Hi Canefan
I am sorry to read that you are having such a hard time. How scary. This lyme journey can bring us lots of scares, and it probably is the disease just doing its monkey mischief in exactly that way. Boo, boogeyman. Go away.
Many things can all mimic many symptoms and hopefully that will be the case with you.
That said, here a few things that can strengthen capillary and blood vessel walls.
But I would want you to get this checked out with your doctor to be sure you are getting the right dosages, make sure you don't need any medication, operation, etc. I do not offer this in any way as any substitute for appropriate medical intervention, instead only as adjunct support and again ask your doctor about this:
Quercitin---strengthens capillary walls. I am using Now Foods Quercitin + Bromelain 400 mg per capsule that's a very high dose. I am going to do this only for a short time for capillary strengthening, then lower maintenance dose afterward (noticed some burst blood vessels in my eyes recently, capillary fragility from unknown source. Read recently that the bartonella infection can do this, but going to ask my doc about it. Nutrient deficiencies are more likely the cause, vitamin C and bioflanvonoids and copper too, I was just reading).
Bioflavonoids can help, but quercitin is the key role player in my best understanding. For maintenance I would want to do a mixed bioflavnoid formula to avoid a high dose of one single bioflavonoid robbing the body of the other bioflavonoids in the body and causing imbalance. I think it's wise to use balanced formulas or best of all to use whole foods. The Ayurvedic Amla fruit is the highest source known of bioflavonoids and vitamin C, according to Linda Rector Page, ND with 750 mg of vit C per fruit and also very high flanvonoid content!
Witch hazel---contracts and firms swollen vessels, astringent
Horse chestnut---strengthens blood vessel walls
Magnolia---ditto
Ginkgo---in addition to oxygenating brain can strengthen capillary walls. Check with doctor, dilates capillaries, make sure this action is not contra-indicated.
Again this is for adjunct support and make sure you have professional supervision.
FYI I heard re brain aneurisms that if they burst, "you don't *almost* pass out, you do pass out!" And some people do "make it"....though it is usually fatal but again a few people do make it. I know of one such person.
Just so you know, they can operate on aneurisms if there is one and splint it. So you will be okay.
And hopefully all will turn out to be lilly white and perfect, and you will be just fine!! :-) In fact you probably already are.
For now, until you find out (and rule it out, which you probably will)....Don't believe it. Oh yeah. The aneurism...that you *don't* have!
Positivity wins, is almost always the true story.
But it's important to get it checked out too, just for peace of mind.
You take care of yourself and let us know how it's going. We will be thinking of you and routing for you!!

Wow, I am very very curious to know more about these pulses in the center of the stomach!! I am absolutely convinced that this thing that pulses in the stomach is what causes the head pressure and a lot of nerve issues... txgirl, did the doc find sth worng with your stomach? By the way i do not think the pulse comes from being skinny but rather that thing in the stomach is what makes us skinny, so it's the revrse..Oh if only we could know what it is...

I think it causes the head pressure too.
It's as if the arteries/vessels are shrinking and causing the pressure.
I promise Bart is playing a role. Every time I rife for Bart I get a reaction RIGHT on that spot (above belly button)
I do know that Vit C, Silica, and lecithin can do wonders at repairing and cleansing arteries.
