Time to Start a Revolution

Ill be brief and to the point...I know Im not the only person angry at the corruption associated with the forbidden sickness "LYME". Im testing the waters to see how many of you out there are willing to write, text, email or even drive up the block and yell!! I want to do the largest advertising blitz ever seen!! Letters to congress, governers, our president, local/national news and any one that will listen. I want, just as you do for everyone to know the truth about this horrible disease and the effects that it has on the human body. Pass the word along!!! If in fact I get a good response I will pick a date in the near future were we can begin!
Thank You

LYMESTRONG AKA LIVESTRONG

And who are you?

We don't know you, but we are supposed to commit to your project?

The experienced Lymies know this method is ineffective.
Newbies won't even understand what you are so upset about.

And who will pay for the "advertising blitz?"

I am not crazy about the word "revolution" and prefer to work in the most peaceful way possible.

That said, I think the peaceful power of the pen, does indeed have power. More than we may think. We never know who the writing is going to reach.

Even just to reach the public cross-sector is important. Politicians may not budge for the voices of a few people, but I have seen them turn around 180 degrees for the voices of the millions. Targeting the court of public opinion is a very important strategy.

One key is to post written reprint permission to any article posted to the web. Ask readers to spread it around the web. They can and do.

This can help to get word out.

Letters to the editor if fact based instead of opinion based, can really help to open up a lot of eyes.

I think the best thing we can do is to ask PBS stations to air Under Our Skin.

And we can email it out to friends, ask them to pass it around, etc.

Hope this helps.

I agree that it's important to get word out.

Thanks for the enthusiasm.

Careful about how to project the image. "Revolution" conjures up wrong ideas. The more we fight, the more we lose credibility. Calm, facts, and perseverance are keys.

Best, CI

First of all thank you guys/gals for taking a min to read my post...Yes revolution may be to extreme of a word to be used..My motive is simple awareness!!The best form of advertising is word of mouth cost a penny :)Under our skin is due to air on PBS http://www.underourskin.com/ for showtimes. Awarness is the key to it all bumper stickers, bracelets, letters, post, emails, etc...and yes of coarse powerfull tools like the doc Under Our Skin. Knowledge is Power!

I know I sound negative on this, but I am a pessimist.
I realized early on that people with Lyme symptoms can't just go to their family doctor and get diagnosed and treated.

Even if the family doctor does recognize the symptoms, he doesn't know how to treat it or how to provide support to the immune system so that your own body can zap it.
Family doctors usually refer the patient to an Infectious Disease specialist, and we've all heard about the usual minimal one month treatment.

Lymeonidas, I am not against you.
Awareness is wonderful.
But the insurance companies are so powerful, as are the American Medical Association, the pharmaceutical companies and the Center for Disease Control, and none of them are working to help us.

Carol, fully understanding and agreeing with your concern, here is where I think that awareness raising would actually help.

I think if society is more briefed in to the realities of lyme disease and its symptoms, then there will be increased pressure on the powers that be to actually...my god, imagine such a moral and kind thing....treat it!!

Activism of the kind that is being proposed here may actually help us, not hinder us.

However I think if we do it in a disorderly way, or in a way that does not inform people about the details of the disease, then I agree with you that the powers that be will intercept and it will only backfire.

That said, I think that to offer facts to educate the public with awareness will really help. Posting to the Internet by mass effort, asking that posts be seeded widely around the web and granting reprint permission, writing informative and eye-opening letters to the editors, etc is really key.

Maybe outreach via the school PTA's too would be a good idea. Get the schools locally to do lyme disease awareness brief-ins for students and parents alike.

And let's not forget that kids talk to their parents. So they will help to raise awareness.

Just my two cents worth.

Best wishes, CI

amen.

our energy needs to be to get better.

it might be nice if some non-lymies would fight for the cause.

or some powerful ppl-but they seem to be shut-up by the powers that be

Non-Lymies would first need to understand the complexity of our illness and I haven't met one person yet, family included, that will take the time out of their busy, healthy lives to learn about Lyme.
