I think what is interesting, reading Buhner's book, is that when people whose lyme cases don't respond to abx are given herbs that support the body's production of the deficient natural killer cells....then they begin to respond to the abx. And they start to improve.
I have wondered if it's possible that someone with a good immune system, if bit by a tic, would be better able to fend off lyme disease than the next person with lower immune status, bitten by the exact same bug.
And from there, how the body would be better able to fight off the disease when the immune system is supported.
I can say that since taking some immune-supporting herbs for the past ten days, my energy has miraculously bounced wayyyyy back up and certain symptoms are more mild than they were just ten days ago.
I have pow-wow'd about this subject with various people here. Many are of the opinion that the spirochetes trick and outnumber the immune system to such an extent that there is little hope of supporting the immune system under such infected conditions.
I beg to differ. I think we are only holding back our progress if we don't support the immune system, especially at this time when we are infected.
My own experience is only one out of god knows how many thousands of people, so for whatever it's worth, anecdotally it could mean at least something?
I am not a doctor, and am only a layperson thinking out loud, offering my thoughts and my own experience...
