I am really confused and very depressed. I found a doc who was highly recommended and was impressed when I met with him. He started me on an oral regimen of Suprax and Azithromicin for four weeks. I see him again 06/02. He ordered blood work and checked me for many things incl Lyme again along with a CD 57 test. This was all thru Quest due to my health ins and when I asked shouldn't the CD57 be thru Labcorp he said Quest does it now.

My Lyme test came back with one IgG band when in March I had blood drawn and sent to MDL which showed IgM positive bands 39,41 and 23. It has been this way, with these bands since 2009. The quest test in April was my fourth Lyme test. I got the blood drawn the morn aft I met with the doc so I hadn't started the ABX yet. How can it change w/out any treatment? I am really confused by all this and I've been wtng a wk to talk with the doc and when he called I missed the call. It concerns me that he would trust results fm Quest and also how do you explain the chg in the test results?

04/2011 MD Lab IgG neg, IgM 41,23 started Suprax, Azithro

07/2011 Bioref Lab, IgG 28&39, IgM 23 added Plaquinal

The CDC says Lyme is a clinical diagnosis. The tests are not reliable. See this link.

Sorry you have to deal with this. But you came to the right site to become educated in fighting these diseases and for support when you get depressed about it all.

Tests change because the bug changes what proteins it expresses on the outside of itself. This means the body has to generate new antibodies, therefore causing different bands to show positive on the test.

Also, you will likely get different results when using different labs (quest vs. a lyme specialty lab) because the specialty labs are better able to detect bands and also they report bands that the big-name labs (quest, labcorp, etc.) do not report.

Quit testing and just TREAT. You'll be much happier.

Razzle and cockapoo are right.

I am treating BUT what I am afraid of is them basing my treatment on my test results. I am still waiting for his call because I am going to ask why Quest for test results and HOW could a test chg in a month before treatment began??? To Lymetoo, i was wondering how long you were on orals and when did you know it was gone? Was it just symptom base or did they also to follow up testing?

One more thing I noticed on my blood work that he didn't address is something listed as "slight toxic granulation"??? My first two lyme tests were with Labcorp and the third was with MDL (Infec Spec Lab) they showed the same results all three times. This is my first with quest and its different so I need to address this with him.

So is your Quest result showing fewer bands?? I couldn't quite understand what was what. Quest is not very reliable, so I wouldn't pay any attention to the results myself.

I had one WB when I first went to my LLMD, then one a month later after doing an antibiotic challenge. That is the last time I had a WB test.

My dr went by symptoms to know when to stop treating. I treated for 4 yrs. But remember, I had had Lyme for 42 yrs by the time I was treated.

Your test results can vary each time .. at least slightly. But from one lab to another they can change quite a bit. Quest does not even test for all possible bands.

Exactly!! which is why i can't understand how one month later IgM is only one band positive #23 and its prob because it was done at Quest because I never had quest do it. I may have the ID doc retest at another lab just for the hell of it.
