Not sure which one dd is dealing with--urine test in office showed some bacteria--
LLMD wants to put her on yet another abx--Septra--
I'm nervous due to the sulfa component of the med and after having to deal this past week with my ds having a severe allergic reaction to penicillin, I can't go through that again........
Any way to treat this type of infection naturally?
DD has no pain nor itching with this, just frequent urge to urinate.
(Had given her D-Mannose a week or two before appt, but she still "tested" as having some bacteria. Plus, the D-Mannose seemed to make the frequency worse, and she got bad bloating from it......)
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks

I too have bladder issues. I thought it was an UTI but the results came back negative.
the pain in my bladder got so bad I went back and the doctor put me on a week of bactrim.
Didn't do the trick, saw my gyno (had a pelvic ultrasound) and then went to an urologist who told me I probably have intercistal cystitis
I think its the darn lyme, bart, babs, whatever finding another hiding place. I 've been treating aggressively over 3 three years. I thought I killed most of them and they've been every where else in my body.
I only have severe pain in the bladder region. No burning but some frequency.
I trying a low acid diet and marshmellow root (supposed to help inflammation in that area) until I can see my llmd.

I used to get UTI's all the time until I discovered cranberry juice.
For a UTI, cranberry juice or capsules can be very helpful because there is something in the cranberry that prevents bacteria from adhering to the wall of the urinary tract. This prevents the bacteria from establishing a colony and causing an infection. It also "un-sticks" an established colony.
Probiotics and avoidance of sugar (table sugar, brown sugar, molasses, corn syrup, honey, etc.; agave, stevia & xylitol are ok) should also help.
Take care,

Thank you 987, Razzle, and Jane for replying.
Anyone else have suggestions? (Wondering if I can avoid giving dd yet another abx.........)
Does one have to take an abx if bacteria is present in the urine culture done at the LLMD's office or can cranberry juice or other alternatives be used instead?

The only thing I ever used to treat my UTI's in college was cranberry juice. My only symptoms were increased frequency, and burning after urinating. Both symptoms would disappear once I started drinking the cranberry juice. And as long as I drank cranberry juice at least 1-2x per week (I would get the 10 oz. bottles at the college book store), the symptoms would stay away.

My pain is not bladder at all. It's kidney on both sides lower back. Sometimes kidney pain is just in middle of back.
I don't know how you would tell it's bladder? Full in front feeling? Pressure while urinating?
Maybe what I think is feeling of ticked off ovaries, but my bloodwork says post menopausal, isn't ovaries but my bladder screaming for help?

homemade lemonade. 7 lemons in 1 and 1/2 quarts water. sweeten with stevia, about 6 packs. Along with cranberry it helps to neutralize the bladder and prevents the formation of kidney stones.

Thanks again for the cranberry and homemade lemonade suggestions.
I went to Whole Foods and bought what I think is unsweetened cranberry juice--dd said it tasted horrid, but once I slightly diluted it, she drank it.......
We'll see how it works---

Has the Doc done a culture? If the infection is the usual e-coli, it's possible that cranberry and D-mannose will help.
I'm curious - was she on Mepron before this developed? I just learned that you can't have any calcium with Mepron, it can create kidney stones.

I take D-Mannose twice a day to keep infections away. My bladder is very sensitive because I have Interstitial Cystitis.

Thank you lymetoo. I will add this to my health food store list.
It is vit/supp? Is there a brand you prefer or mg?

No, she hasn't been on Mepron for a long time.
Waiting for the culture to come back, but while we wait to see if we should start the abx, I'm having her drinking the cranberry juice, hoping to have her drink it at least 3 times a week.......we'll see if it helps....her frequency definitely seems less this week so far!
Lymetoo, I did give dd D-Mannose a few weeks back. She seemed to tolerate it well until the last day when she got terrible bloating, so we stopped. It also seemed to cause a major increase in her frequency on the first day, so am wondering what that could have been---the body expelling the infection? Good to know though that it is tolerated by someone with IC!
I too would be interested to hear what brand and mg you use. Do you take it twice a day year round or just when you feel symptoms popping up?
Thanks so much everyone for all your help!
