I have to pulse Mepron and Artemisinin both, 3 weeks on and 1 week off since I cannot tolerate the Zith/Biaxin.

Does anyone else do this? Im a little concerned because for the last 2 months I get a really bad herx at the end of week 3 (when my blood levels are high from mepron). But as soon as this starts I STOP the drugs and remain miserable for the 4th week.

This seems pointless, when Im at my worst Im stopping the drug. My doctor doesn't see any of my concerns as an issue and just says to keep doing it.

I also have yeast infections (woman) and thrush and I keep treating those seperately. Im still not on any yeast med. I just bought Candex for my own sanity.

Does all this sound a little crazy or is just me?

How is that working for you? Do you feel as though you are getting well with this?

I have to do the same thing. I don't know how much it hurts the treatment.

Ask your LLMD for meds for the Candida! Like Diflucan, or at least nystatin. And ask for an rx for VSL#3 for a probiotic, if you have insurance (it gets covered that way).

jadams, I went through many months of Mepron and your situation doesn't sound unusual at all.

I would get some Fluconazole (Diflucan) from your doc for the yeast though, else it will get worse and worse. The fungal infections can be as bad as the TBD's.

My understanding, and have seen it said a few times here, is that Mepron shouldn't be pulsed to keep it at the right level.

I've been on Mepron and never stopped, and have gotten better with constant Mepron at high doses.

Nspiker-That is what I was thinking. It sounds ineffective to work up to the 3 week therapeutic dose and then stop. I just wonder if I can keep taking it if Im not on a Marcrolide.

Why are you not taking something like Zith? Do you not tolerate macrolides?

Maybe pulsing will prevent the Mepron resistence...I don't know? What does your doctor say about it.

I had to work up to 2 tsp. twice a day, and that is when I started having improvement.

No I had ringing in ears on Zith and then my stomach could not tolerate Biaxin. My doctor just told me to pulse it.

Has anyone taken another med with Mepron, that helps it from becoming resistant.

I too got rid of Babs (we hope- it appears that way) with 7 months of mepron and zith. I was treated for two years prior by a doc that believed in pulse treatment and that did not work for my Babs.

My LLMD did a mepron pulse 3 weeks on 1 week off with zith and flagyl pulsed the same way. I started treatment in Sept 2010 and it is now May and I left this LLMD and found one that treats with abx and anti-malarials daily, because I actually got worse with babs. I have only been getting treated now since May 3rd by new LLMD but he is a good one - very well known one and I am confident I will get rid of the babs this time.

by the way my LLMD before the new one this month didn't understand any of my concerns nor did he ever listen to me.

I am very happy with my new LLMD.
