Found a tic crawling down my arm. I have no clue if it bit me or not. This thing is about the size of half a grain of rice, or maybe somewhat smaller.
What kind is tic is this? Should I be concerned? Should I get it tested and if so how would I do this.
I don't usually get freaked about things very easily but.........it has me a little uptight.
Any thoughts, advice appreciated

i would think to search your body good for signs of a bite.. if you keep the tick, you may get it tested... I believe even a vet. could do that. then I would pay good attention to your health, fever, anything odd.. if your doctor is easy to get to and do.. or a walk in clinc.. do it. early treatment is a better answer then chronic. I showed a MD my bite and he said it was MRSA - NOT. I believe you live in the right area too. and it would seem that a tick thats been feeding would look huge and white in body as it is blood filled.. many people have ticks on them or been bite and are fine. try to be calm in this. to late and i am the sick one now. there is good info here in search too. i am not a doctor, but, I do not what anyone to get Lyme.. ever

I would #1 save the tick and have it tested #2 get on doxy immediately for a few weeks. Many people with Lyme never remember being bit by a tick (I have never even seen one-- and I've got Lyme).
Better to be safe than sorry!

Payne, All Thanks for the reply. Problem is I am already chronic. I should have mentioned this in the post I suppose but just figured most on here are aware of this. I have been on here a year now. I am sorry you are sick. Believe me I know exactly what you're going through. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.
I am currently treating for lyme and babs. Have been clinically diagnosed with bart and erlichia as well. Bart symptoms are the worst for me but my reputable llmd says we have to hit the babs first. Long story but thats the short version.
LLMD is an hour and a half away and won't see her 'til next week. I do have some close vets but would they get the test right?

you can google or call igenex and mail them the tick for $55.oo and they will send you a report on it. In the meantime you are already on abx, correct?
It may have just been walking on you. They walk on your body for 24 hours before finding a warm spot to stay and feed on you. (scary)
I would be just as worried as you are. Do you use deet spray in PA? I wont walk out the door without it when I head upstate, plus I use premertin? on my clothes at this time of the year. You seem to have had a nymph on you. Sound like it with what you described. They are so small and sneaky!!

Yep, on way more ABX than I care to be. That being the case I have to wonder if the tick did/would bite me, would the massive doses of ABX keep a new infection at bay?
As much research as I've done on this I never realized they just crawl around for a day or so to pick the right spot. That's just nasty.
I am thinking it jumped on the dog when she was out. Since she gets flea and tick repellent religiously, it probably didn't care for her too much. So guess who the lucky recipient is.
I am hoping that the critter felt the same way about me though considering all the meds. Maybe it makes us less tasty.
I did seal the sucker up tight in a container. I figured I would imprison him they way one of his relatives did me.
As far as the spray I just got some of the avon stuff. It comes recommended by quite a few folks on here. Only problem with it I see is they don't sell big enough bottles to fill the bath tub.
Thanks for the Igenex tip. I think I even have one of their forms filed away. $55 seems like alot to do this but I guess that's the price for reassurance.

Better to keep it alive by adding a piece of moist cotton or a few blades of grass in with the tick.
I never heard of taking it to a vet for testing so why not makes some calls and see if its cheaper before igenex.
LOL...maybe we do taste nasty! I sure hope so since I am so afraid of going upstate ny tomorrow. I am so neurotic that I spent over 300 dollars on sprays for clothes, lotions with deet for hunters, permetrium powder for grass around the house!!

if you are on abx there is a good chance you won't get infected even if it did bite you

I was out asparagus hunting last week in a wooded area, tick city!
I wore a hood that covered all my hair, tall furry boots, covered everywhere except my hands and face.
Got home, IMMEDIATELY took all my clothes off, took a hot bath with my hair up. No more than 2 hours later i felt a little tick crawling in my hairline.
i freaked out, flung the thing from my hand onto the table or ground who knows where. As I was searching for it i knocked my lamp over and blew a braker lol.
I don't think I was bit. But guess how many ticks i found hangin on my furry boots? like 7!! and this was days later.
Makes me feel good to know it takes them around a day to figure out where they want to feed at. My dad got 2 ticks dug into him

You are currently treating for lyme and babs, so you don't have to worry about getting those diseases from a new tick bite. Those germs won't get past the bite site. This is what my lyme doc told me when I was in treatment.
If you are taking anything that covers bart and ehrlichia, then you are totally covered for any tick bite.
So, I really don't think I would do much more right now other than keep the tick with a moist cotton ball in the container. Especially since you never saw a tick attached to you.
You should also watch for any bulls eye rashes anywhere on your body.

I tend to agree with Carol....I dont agree with it taking them 24 hrs to attach.
Where did that info come from? I do daily and nightly tick checks. I went to bed at 11 pm one night and woke up at 5:30 that morning with the dang critter on me.
I had actually been out picking up pine cones only 12 hours eariler (didnt know until later they LOVE pine) wont be doing that again!
It wasnt attacked long at all, but was still enough to put me in a full blown relaspe.
Just my opinion, but I dont think I would put too much stock in that 24 hr deal.

I can sooo relate to being freaked out when you find a tick. Weather its crawling around or attatched to you.
I live in Fla and we have a dance called the "fire ant dance"(lol) well I now have a new one called "oh crap its a tick- get it off, get it off".
I am glad that its been asked about getting bitten after testing pos. and being on abx.I was bitten by 2 nymphs when I got back home in april.
I have just been diag. with lymes(march this year). pos by cdc standards as well as ignex. I think I've had this a long time.
I am very glad to have found this really great site. It allows you to feel not so alone. Thank you.
