Try to see a dermatologist. They could be many different causes including fungal infection, hypothyroidism, dermatitis, RX meds, vitamin deficiencies, etc...

Here are some pics and info that might help: http://www.skinsight.com/adult/onychomycosis-signsAndSymptoms.htm

You don't need to scream.

Yes, I have a toenail that is really ugly. It's fungus, and it's probably from all the antibiotics I've been on. doc wants me to soak in vinegar, but I haven't done this yet.

my mother had lyme and she had this. her toenails were very thick and yellow and would fall off.

they gave her some kind of paint on liquid. i don't think it worked but then she was notorious for not doing what the doctor says.

My finger nails fell off after taking doxycycline and spending time in the sun. The sun penetrated the nail beds and burned right through causing the nails to burn and then lift.

I had used sun block everywhere else. I guess I forgot the nail beds. If I had to do it over again I would where colored nail polish and if I were not inclined, gloves.

That is the only problem I've ever had with my nails. It really did bother me.

My husband has this. I think it is mold.

Still trying to find something to help. Thinking of trying grapefruit seed extract.

We tried many paint on products. He saw a doctor that gave him a pill - gave him diarrhea so he stopped taking it. This doc said the swelling and soreness on that toe is arthritis... I don't think so. I think it is all mold.

--------------------
May health be with you!

Toxic mold was suppressing our immune systems, causing extreme pain, brain fog and magnifying symptoms. Four days after moving out, the healing began.

I have had this for many years - my nails aren't yellow or thick, they peel up. I went to a dermatologist who gave me Penlac which helps along with keeping my hands dry. Water makes the problem much worse.

I never associated with Lyme but maybe it was the cause all along.
