Only been in treatment for 6 months for Late stage Lyme & co's. (first positive Elisa was in 2005) but not treated until this year. Stopped antibiotics - all was well until day nine of being off of meds and became really sick again. I'm wondering how many have had this happen after only 8 days off of antibiotics because trying to sort out whether extreme sickness is the Lyme or something else. I thought if it was from Lyme that stopping antibiotics for 2 wks or less would not make such a big difference, am I wrong? Lyme literate doctor has no clue, so I am back to searching for a real LLMD. (Already posted in finding doctor)

thanks for any knowledge or experience with short antibiotic break making huge difference in how sick they were.

...sorry, forgot to ask: this doctor had me on 500 mg Zithromaz per day and have not choice but to try to up the dosage, just wondering if anyone has had any serious problems with increasing Zithro to much more than 500 mg per day.

I know you can't say how much to take, but I will be increasing to at least 750 mg. Just wanted to know if others have been OK on 750 or more mg daily zithromax.

thks again,

Beagle

That does suggest something going on that is not borrelia (but could be in addition to borrelia). BUT, some of the coinfections have shorter life cycle--like bartonella and babesia, so it doesn't mean that lyme isn't the biggest thing going on, just that there is more than just borrelia.

If you were herxing and stopped the antibiotics, you would still have a herx. Especially with Zithromax, which has a long shelf life in your system. (2 weeks or more possibly).

It's been reported that if you relapse before the 30 days after starting treatment are up, look at bartonella. If after 30 day, look at Lyme.

That is not a hard-fast rule, but it is accurate for a number of cases.

I can not and will not advise on medication doses. You really need to check with your doctor on that.

Hope you find what it is and can be feeling better soon.

I can tell you this. Back in April was on a zpack. I believe that stays in your system for about 10 days. After the 10 days were up I felt real.. real bad. I believe it's because the drug was working and effective in fighting what ever it is that troubles me I guess they tell me lyme load not so much but Bart. Z works on bart. I'm about to start 500mg's of zith myself and add plaquanil. I would never tell you what to take.. as I'm not really for any of these drugs.. but if the dose the llmd had you on made you better why stop it?

It suggests that you have coinfections!! They come roaring back quickly.

ditto what Michael said

Agree with Lymetoo. You have coinfections and they need to be treated or you will never get rid of lyme. Also, if you have chronic lyme, 6 months was way too soon to try stopping meds.

I hope you are on a lot more than just zith.

If you have never read and STUDIED the Burrascano lyme treatment guidelines, it is time you do so. You need to get your education on this disease and what good treatment looks like.

Try adding one of these to zith:
ceftin
Mepron (cyst buster)
Tindimax (cyst buster)

did these combo's on zith and did REALLY well!

can use Biaxin (cousin) to zith

Zith highest dose is 600mg...so if your on 500mgs, 600 won't make much difference, need to add another drug to help along with zith.

I agree with the above. Co-infections can be just as bad as the Lyme.

Good advice here.

Bart comes back super fast. It is hard to stay ahead of it.

Is Mepron a cyst buster for lyme?

In the 9 days before you crashed, were you symptomless? Were you symptomless for two months prior to stopping?

The positive ELISA means Lyme, and I have heard some suggest that Mepron is a cyst buster, though I don't know what research has been done to that effect. I do know that aside from the combos containing cyst busters, the only one that really helped me was Mepron/Zith.

i was on 1000 mg zith a day with a huge dose of amox too for over a year

another poster on here was also on that dose

i had to use a lot of probiotics, anti fungals and sbc but was able to work

i was a mom too but won't say i was a great mom during that time

i don't think any of us know how much damage these drugs do to us for a long time. its a trade off---i decieded to get my life back and deal with what ever happened in the future...for me the future seems to be here and i am trying to deal with it

CRX...TF...apljack,

I was definately far from symptomless when I stopped. The Doc said "try stopping antibiotics to see what happens. maybe your symptoms all stem from the failed total knee replacement issue." The ortho docs need me off antibiotics in order to diagnose infection in the hardware from total knee replacement. Had this surgery in Sept. and now it is loose and need revision.

So stopped the antibiotics but got immediately back on them after huge relapse on 9th day. It's been 4+ days back on them and only slight improvement so far.

And what you all say makes sense because pretty sure main culprit for me has been Bart.

jen, my first doctor had me on Cefdnir and Zithro.

changed to doctor in MA and she switched the Cefdnir to Plaquinel.

Thinking of going back to the Cefdnir (Omnicef) since this new doctor has not been very helpful at all. Especially since you said Zithro and Ceftin helped you. (Omnicef is same drug class as Ceftin.)

How long have you been sick and did you say you likely have BArt?

Thks,

Beagle
