I've been with my current doctor for a year now. She had recommended IV Rocephin (2 grams a day) back in Feb. after Doxy and Azithro haven't improved my situation.

She doesn't know what else to do at this point so has referred me to Lyme dr. in my area (Dr. H) but Dr. H can't see me until 8/31.

My doctor suggested removing PICC line until I see Dr. H. I was very unhappy with that and so she said she wouldn't do it unless I agreed. (I fear the only reason she wants to remove it is because my health insurance company is now fighting her decision and I don't think she wants to deal with the paperwork that will be involved.)

Anyway, last week, I started having diarrhea. I didn't want to say anything to my doctor because of her recent suggestion. I've had a few days here and there with severe stomach pain as well that radiates in my back, between shoulder blades, etc. It's like a gall bladder attack but I no longer have a gall bladder as it was removed last January when Bactrim attacked my liver, pancreas and finally gall bladder. I also have pain on my right side which concerns me because I remember this pain from pancreatitis.

I called docs office today and she has recommended that I stop ALL antibiotics, including my Doxycycline, and drop off a stool sample. I didn't get to talk to doctor. I'm concerned about stopping and what is she looking for?

Any ideas, suggestions? When I drop off sample tomorrow, I will ask but I'm sitting here feeling awful and the worrying doesn't help me.

You could have a stone or sludge in your bile duct. Been there. I am extremely sensitive to abx now for that reason. (oh, and candida!)

Are you talking about seeing Dr H in NY??

the stool sample is likely to check for c.diff .. maybe she will also check for candida/yeast.

When was your most recent bloodwork? Based on your description I would also be concerned over possible liver or pancreatic enzyme elevations.

If you have not had bloodwork done since the symptoms started then I would get that done ASAP. Get orders from your doc or go to an urgent care center if necessary. Knowing the enzyme levels should help guide any future treatment.

And as someone else mentioned recently -- doing a castor oil pack shouldn't hurt and might even help with some of the pain.

My guess is the stool sample is for c diff.

Since the PICC line is in place unless you have home health care there is no other paperwork or anything for the doc to do unless you need scrips for supplies to flush the line. But I do think the doc could get in trouble if your line does become infected, so take good care of it.

This is the issue I see with all these ABX.. it seems to me they can cause more problems then the person had to start with. By all means give your body a BREAK!!!

i'd say stop also. i think the body at some point just collapses and says i've had enough.

it will not help you to continue to take abx if you're going to get all these side effects.

just be sure you're taking a ton of probiotics.

and i'll pray for you that it's not c. diff. i've had it, and i've never been sicker. so good luck.

what is C diff. i hear many talk about it and see it on the possible side effects of abx that I take but unsure what it is.

I am goign to stop abx from now on. My llmd left me on omnicef only for what will be 9 months in august and nothing else besides diflucan and supps, probiotics.

He says I am in remission except I feel exactly the same as when I saw Dr R in december. I am giving up on all of this since I feel worse than ever...how is that remission?

I woudl stop the abx if you doc says too. It does more damage than good as you can see by your past history.

Time to wait to see the new llmd and build up your immune system in between. Veggie and fruit smoothies and good probiotics, what is great are B12 injections u give yourself a few times a week. It helped my stomach pain a lot!!!

If you can't take abx, yet need treatment, you could buy a rife machine.

I have a rife machine and use it frequently to keep my symptoms down. It works. I don't take abx. I was on oral abx for 5 1/2 years.

I agree with pamois .. Rife is great.

That said, antibiotics can save lives .. esp with Lyme & Co.
