I guess this is more of a vent than a question.
I am pregnant and on insulin. Saturday I suddenly got very ill. Like from fine to incoherent in 2 minutes. I was at the cusp of not being able to get up and get my glucometer and sugar source. I was alone.
My glucose was 47 (normal 80-120)
I was able to recover myself but it scared me. The on call ob helped me decide what to take for insulin.
things were fine after that until midnight last night. I woke up horribly ill. Drenched in sweat disoriented. I managed to get my blood glucose and it was 40! I managed to get to the kitchen and hubby made me some food.
The thing is I have ZERO warning. I go from fine to disoriented in like 2 minutes if that. If it goes any lower, I will not be able to help myself.
My diabetes doctor is not in this week (of course) and no other doctor seems concerned. The nurse told me to eat more protein at bedtime. I tried to explain that I had just eaten a good amount at 9pm, my 10p blood sugar was 120. By 12 am it was 40? That makes no sense.
I usually go to bed at 8pm and my sugar has been fine.
they said not to change my insulin doses. too bad for them, I would rather it be a tad high than call 911.
The thing is I am alone 90% of the day and night. I sleep alone because of my bed causing pain, I have severe insomnia and sleep with cpap. So if I pass out no one will find me, or one of my kids will which is no good.
i actually had to explain to my 9 year old today (again) about how to call 911.
I dont get why no one is alarmed? I wouldnt be so concerned if I didnt get incoherent and I was not pregnant.
Its starting to drop again, so i better go eat. Hard to do when you you have hyperemesis.
Can you carry some of that glucose in a tube around your neck in case you get into trouble and have no one around???

I have some in my purse. I keep that next to me all the time. as well as juice. I keep my glucometer in there and my phone and list of meds..
It figures that when this happened on sat, my purse was in the kitchen. Wont do that again.
My hubby doesnt quite get it either. He only knows something is wrong when I tell him. I think my arm could fall off and he wouldnt have a clue. Its not his fault. I am sick all the time and he prob just assumes its the usual.
nothing has killed me yet, so I dont think he panics.
I just worry if he will notice if I cant speak what the problem is. maybe its time for another talk.....

Yes, make sure he knows what to look for. I have a friend whose husband has diabetes and he woke her up one night in a seizure... due to low blood sugar.
So warn him about that too. He may not understand what is happening.
Can you keep that tube in your pocket too? Got any pockets??

Was just wondering--did you by chance just start on a new insulin prescription (not a change in dosage or brand, but a new batch)?
Could there be something wrong with the insulin and it's bringing your blood sugar down too much?
If not, has anything else changed (new medication, etc.) that might be affecting your sugar?
Is there any way that you can contact your diabetes doctor while he/she is away? It seems to me that this is way too serious of a situation to have to wait 'til next week.

Can you set an alarm to wake you every 3-4hrs after going to bed? That way you can check your blood sugar and eat a quick snack. It won't solve the problem as to why you are having these drops at night but it might help keep you safe until you can see the doctor next week.
I'm surprised no other doctor is concerned. Your blood sugar directly affects your baby. They should be worried about both of you.

no new insulin. My dose goes up every week. I guess thats the normal progression. I started a new dose Saturday. It only ges up about 4 units at a time, which has been this way for like 4 months. The low bg didnt start until sat pm, so i assumed that was the issue. But i am now on less than i was last week and it still seems wrong.
my insulin needs are not supposed to decrease until 8 more weeks. But my body does not act like its supposed to.
I was told my peri could be reached, but i guess they didnt feel the need. I dont get it. I know my doc would do something.
No new meds. I am a little more nauseated, but thats not real new.

I could get up through the night, but once i wake up i am up all night. That stinks too. I do take a beta blocker so that may mask my low bg symptoms. My doc wanted me off of it and i tried other meds, but couldnt tolerate them.

- Doesn't sound good to me. Maybe you need to call the office again and demand to hear from the doctor. Is that possible?

Yes, demand to speak to your dr, or at the very least, he must have a covering dr for him, doesn't he?? This is serious! Both you and your baby could not make it!
Do have a talk with your husband. Could he sleep in the same room until this gets straightened out? Although, if he is a sound sleeper, that may not be sufficient.
Sorry to say, unless you can talk to your dr and get this straightened out ASAP, it sounds like you may need to be in the hospital! You can't risk passing out and no one knows!!! What is wrong with these people that they don't get it??!!
