Here are some quotes.

In other words, they put lots of dead spirochetes in the mice and although some lymph node swelling was noted, it wasn't near the problem that live spirochetes caused.
So, lymph node swelling- lymphadenopathy- can be caused by LIVE spirochetes hiding out in lymph nodes.
