Was on orals for 1 year. Felt better; however, then went off after for 2 months and felt worse. Have been back on orals for 10 days now and feel better (I had yeast so went off antibiotics to clear yeast; even after yeast was cleared I felt worse until I went back on orals). p.

I have probably had Lyme 40 years prior to being dx. I just started ABX in March. The first 60 days on zithromax didn't do a whole lot, although it did seem to cure my PM fatigue. Then I did Flagyl x 10 days. I thought the first two doses would kill me and then, voila, I felt much improved!!! Now finishing 30 days of doxy and will do Flagyl again. Week 3 of doxy has me feeling very fatigued, but overall, this early in treatment, I am surprised that I actually sense improvement, and I am a huge skeptic. It may all be short-lived, but I don't care. I will take a good day any time.

I took orals only, for 2 years and 4 months. I've been off them for 6 months, so far no relapse. I am pretty much back to my usual self now.

julie and pippi--as I have heard that those sick for "a long time" may need IV's, I'd be curious how long were you infected/sick before starting treatment with orals ... and how long did it take for you julie?

Michael - I was sick with Lyme for more than a 10 yrs, and had Bartonella for 9 mos when I finally got treatment.
I took abx for 9 mos and had my life back. After that, I still had lots more cleanup to do (detoxing, attacking yeast, rebalancing minerals and boosting immune system), but I have not gone back on abx. I am healthier now than before I got sick in 1994.

Yes. Sick for 7 years and only 6 weeks of IV -the rest of the time was orals. Off and on tx for 7 years with the past 1.5 years mostly on.
I was back to 95% functioning for the past 4 months and off all abx.s. I either got re-infected or relapsed and am back on orals.
But yes, I did get better with a combo of Doxy and Biaxin (and lots of supp.'s). I was neuro.

I was sick for one and a half years before diagnosis in Feb 2008. I have done nothing but orals. I took two breaks from abx going on herbs. The first one five months and the second one 8 months.
I did not know I had bartonella until the second year of treatment or babesia until about 7 months ago. Treating all the infections has made a huge difference. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
I believe you can get well on orals. You need to know what you are infected with and you need to keep at it.

Yes, oral only - clindamycin, 150mg, around the clock in the begining, now 1x/day is enough. I have an old West coast slow-growing fibro strain, no co's.

Orals only here, treating 3 years now, and have made good progress. Not 100%, but considering I have had this disease for decades, I'm doing pretty good. Important to attack biofilm with NAC or enzymes.
-------------------- Sick since at least age 6, now 67. Decades of misdiagnosis. Numerous arthritic, neuro, psych, vision, cardiac symptoms. Been treating for 7 years, incl 8 mos on IV. Bart was missed so now treating that. Posts: 765 | From nw ct | Registered: Sep 2008

I'm doing well on oral antibiotics. The initial two weeks of doxy didn't help at all, but after just a few days on Flagyl I noticed a HUGE improvement. I'd say I'm functioning at about 80%, which is awesome considering the fact that I was barely able to walk less than three weeks ago!
Not sure how long I've had this, but my estimate is around 6-8 months. I think I caught it "pretty early" compared to most, but I'm almost out of abx now and no LLMD appointment until mid-August so I am a bit worried about that. We'll see what happens after a few weeks off antibiotics *fingers crossed*
