Depends on how you feel about getting poked with a needle a lot. What med? Rocephin or bicillin? Have heard bicillin can cause lumps. Why don't you do an archive search for bicillin if you are considering this one.

PICC insertion is a medical procedure and some people have had infected lines or other problems. Don't know how common this is, but it is something to consider. Might also consider the cost of insertion and maintenance.

Bottom line is that there are pluses and minuses to both, and you need to collect information and then make the choice that suits you personally.

I have not ever had IV AND Bicillin injections at the same time, so I don't know if that is even a good idea. I'm not a doctor.

I can say that I have had a port with 16 months of IV and now I'm on Bicillin injections. I haven't had a picc since I had the port instead but it's the same types of medications.

I know that my LLMD talked about both options and made sure I understood it. As Lou has said, there are going to be pros and cons on both directions.

The advantage of IV for treatment is that you can change to many different medications where as Bicillin shots are ONE medication. If it is the "right drug for the right bug", it has been said to be a turning point med for so many.

Bicillin will be less money if that is a major factor for you.

My advice would be to talk this topic over with your doctor and get his or her feeling on which might be a better option for you taking in to account where you are in treatment.

I think these both can be wonderful options to get us on our road to recovery. And starting with one, doesn't mean you can't swap to the other later in treatment, IF that is needed.
