I am off of dairy for the month of July to see if I have any benefits health wise. I know that whey is dairy, but is it OK to take on a dairy free diet? I didn't want to miss out on the protein.

I think it depends upon whether or not you are allergic to dairy or having digestive issues from it. Seems like you'd need to abstain if you want to see health benefits of being dairy free.
hoping someone else is more knowledgeable than me!

I think the biggest offender in dairy products is the casein, because casein is difficult to digest and creates mucus. Whey protein doesn't contain casein, so technically it shouldn't be mucus-forming.
Another offender is lactose. There is a small amount of lactose in undenatured whey protein. I don't think there's any lactose in isolated whey protein.
I'm not positive about these things that I wrote above.
