I recently chipped a tooth. My teeth have been going to pot for a while. likely since I first contracted Lyme. Underneath the chip, is a sizable amalgam filling. The dentist wants to do a root canal with a post/core. I am thinking more and more that this could be a bad idea.
The problem is, I need my teeth. I have already lost one. I take very good care of them and theyre going to crap anyway. It almost isnt an option to lose another tooth. Im going to talk this over with doc at mondays appt. But I am not sure how much he will know about dental care for Lyme patients.

Could someone that knows about this subject give me some advice? Of course, I want the amalgam out, but how to do it? What next? the tooth will be a jagged hollow brittle thing and most certainly shatter within weeks. How can I save this tooth without damaging my health?

Some have said resolving dental issues has helped turn another corner.

BTW, I posted in seeking, looking for a LLdentist in the NJ/NY area.

Thanks everyone.

This is a big decision. First off, you must go to a good biological dentist.

Sending you a PM.

Lymetoo, The tooth is pretty badly craked. The fron half is gone. She is probably thinking that there's no way that she can save the tooth without taking out the root and putting a post in. I just cannot lose my teeth. once one or two go, I hear they all start to go...

lymeboy which tooth? If it's a front tooth I can see needing to have it fixed. Not a root canal but maybe some other option.

But if a dentist told me I needed a root canal. I would run to another dentist and get another opinion.

Tammy has some great info to share. lymeboy, try doing a search on this site and read some threads and posts on root canals aka dead tooth areas and who like dead areas.

Hard decision but one I think you really need to do some research on. You could spend tons of money doing all this recommended dental work to save this tooth and it could be money wasted because then it could turn into a toxic haven.

I'd also research how to properly remove a weak tooth. Wonder if tooth was weaken due to some bacteria already hanging out there?

I'm just toothless on the top left quad but that started when I was a teenager many many years ago and a dentist pulled a molar tooth and refused to show the "bad" tooth to my mother.

The last molar tooth in that quad I demanded a dentist pull it after I had spent over a thousand with specialist and dentist trying to save one darn infected gum/bone/tooth.

It didn't work. It was diseased. He pulled the tooth. Four days later(July 99) the illness from he!! began. What he sent off into my bloodstream I will probably never know for sure.

Please know as much as you can research.

Pam
