The numbers are all over the place.

The IDSA/CDC guys usually say 80%.

The ILADS guys usually say less than 50%. Many say 40%. I've heard 37% from a good LLMD.

It basically depends on what studies you look at, and the biases of the researchers. Also different strains of the bacteria produce different symptoms, and many strains don't produce any rash at all. For this reason it's very regional.

In "Cure Unknown" we see an example of an ID doctor saying that 100% of Lyme patients get the rash, and he even quoted a study. The author of the book inquired about the study, and found out it was circular thinking - Only patients with the rash were allowed to enroll in the study, and so the study concluded that 100% of the patients had the rash.

Well, there are some things that are more important than studies. Most of the studies required the rash as an entry requirement, since there are no other tests that can prove that someone has Lyme.

On the other hand, if an ILADS doctor with 12,000 Lyme patients says that 37% of his patients had the rash... Who are you more inclined to trust: the studies or the experienced doctors?

Hey cheffer, there is no data that's 100% on this subject, that I know of.

From what I have read for years I would say, between 35 - 40 % of people get the bulls eye rash

But, keep in mind, many people like myself will get different rashes on different parts of the body.

I still get rashes from time to time after 3-4 years. Been tested and tested for these rashes and they never have a clue what they are!

I just think its all part of the dying off process....
