I got the IBS dx as well from GI doc. The meds he gave really didn't help much. Have had lots of abd. pain. Swelling of the liver. Evidently rib pain and abd pain is common with lyme. Treating the lyme and probiotics should help.

I have had terrible gallbladder liver pain for more than a year. Did an entire GI workup with Hida scan petscan MRI etc nothing. I finally requested Lyme test thanks to my dog, igor's vet, and got the positive results. I read an article by a woman dr all about how Lyme affects the gi tract. Maybe Linda Schererr? It can cause dysbiosis, it can inflame the various organs and of course there are the parasites. You can search here as I did and find lots of info to help in all these areas. Things like probiotics and digestive enzymes are useful. Youight need to add some binders to help take out bile, coffee enemas help, treat parasites too. I hope his helps. Good luck

My son is abdominally pain free after a year of struggling with pain levels up to 9. He had every test and procedure. Diagnosed with gastroparesis just to give it a name I think.

After 3 months into Lyme treatment, orals only, the pain went away. I think it was the babesia treatment of artemesia, which he herxed a lot on, that gave him the relief. Just my theory.

Slippery Elm is supposed to help the stomach and marshmallow root tea. We do tons of probiotics and detox now along with Lyme and coinfection treatment.

Best of luck to you! You deserve your health!

I have GI pain terribly... I can feel the pain caused by "fiber" moving through my colon.. gas is really painful on my left side too... seems the less fiber I eat the better...

Having a colonoscopy was the most painful thing I've ever had. The pain under my heart was so bad afterwards I couldn't eat solid for for weeks..

They did xrays and said nothing was wrong.. very frustrating to have so many neg tests..

Timone-my first question would be have you had a colonoscopy? If not, you need one to be sure to rule out other problems.

I think an IBS diagnosis is used far too often when drs. don't have an answer they just give your mystery symptoms a name.

I can tell you that for over 10 years I have dealt with abdominal, colon, ovary, pelvic and rectal pain that until recently had occurred quite often.

I, too, was diagnosed with IBS and diverticulitis via a colonoscopy in 2000.

Started Citrucel nightly for a bit of extra fiber and it helped tremendously.

I would have very loose stools, often diarrhea and then be constipated.

Rarely happens now thanks to Citrucel. I won't switch to any other fiber product because it works so well for me.

I've found that when I get that severe pain 1 Aleve will ease it and at times I need 2 Aleve.

It does not help with the rectal pain though. Thankfully that doesn't happen to often.

I was also diagnosed with a rectal fissure which caused intense, stinging, burning, pain so bad nothing relieved it and just sitting/standing caused severe pain.

There is that condition where the sphincter muscle causes pain because of spasms. My Lyme dr. said a male patient of his complained of rectal pain for over a year and they couldn't find out what was wrong. He thought maybe the Lyme germies were hiding out there.

Here's a decent link for rectal pain http://www.healthscout.com/ency/68/373/main.html

My pain will hang out in one area for days to weeks, complelely disappear and then a new area will be hit with the pain.

I was told to take flaxseed for its wonderful benefits. I found that was causing me severe colon/pelvic pain and bloating.

I thought I had ovarian cancer, got an ultrasound-nothing. So I stopped taking the flax seed and it went away.

I was eating popcorn daily as a healthy snack, severe left side colon pain for weeks. I stopped that too.

I suppose foods and your diet could be the cause.

I hope some of this helps you.

Everyone,

Check into treating for parasites. Google parasite symptoms and do a search on here. Antiparasitics, saved my life after 4 yrs of abx. The "fibers" you're feeling could be parasites.

Timone-

I used to get severe abdominal cramping, enough to keep me up all night in terrible pain. My doctor told me that that can happen when the gut is not producing enough serotonin. He advised that I start supplementing with 5-HTP or l-tryptophan each evening before bedtime. This worked for me. The cramping went away, although I still experience a lot of uncomfortable bloating.

Unfortunately, these supplements are fairly expensive...
