I cant take the macrolides or Bactrim but am supposed to start Rifampin. I have heard it needs to be taken with another antibiotic to prevent resistance. But I've also heard of people taking it with Doxy or flagyl, meaning that any antibiotic will do the trick.
I currently take Augmentin XR, will this be good enough?

You shouldn't take Rifampin alone. If you are trying to treat Bartonella you will want to take it with Doxy or Mino. Of course, you could also add Flagyl. This combo would help with Mycoplasma, CPN, and Lyme too.
Augmentin is not commonly used to treat Bartonella, it is effective for Lyme.
Levaquin and Factive can also be used for Bartonella. Your doctor will know all these things.

Well my doctor wont put me on Doxy since its summer and the burn problem. My doctor said to go ahead with the Augmentin and Rifampin. Not sure what her thinking is, I guess there is nothing else I can take right now.

I am also taking only Rifampin and Augmentin, but that's because I'm in the midst of switching LLMD's and ran out of my other drugs. I know it's probably not the best but my body (esp gut) feels quite good after this break!

Have been on Rifampin only for 6 months. Have really improved. Was concerned about taking Rifampin alone. My LLMD said that he does prescribe it alone for certain people.
I have alot of difficulty with toxicity, would rather take one drug at a time and be functional, rather than multiple drugs and housebound.

I live at a high elevation in a sunny climate and I'm on doxy. I even discussed this with my doctor and for various reasons he preferred the doxy over another antibiotic for me. Sunscreen and a hat works for me. It can be done.
Best, Timaca
