Hi...I'm fairly new here and I have a quick question for some of the veterans here. I have been clinically diagnosed with Lyme and pinged positive for Bartonella (Igenex) I'm working with an LLMD and have been taking Rifampin (600 mg/day) and Biaxin (2000 mg/day)for about 7 weeks now. I am fortunate that I don't have much joint pain and the little I had seems to be gone. However, the primary issue I am fighting is "head pressure". It's really not brain fog, in that I can concentrate and work, but this feeling of pressure is just relentless. Also have a "tippy" feeling, but it's not that bad.

My question is this...I'm trying to see how long it typically takes for the head pressure to at least show some improvement.

I was hoping to have one "good day" and I haven't had that. I felt pretty lousy when I first started treatment (lasted about a week) and I think it was a Herx, but after that, I'm back to how I felt when I first started treatment. I understand it's a long road to recovery and I am patient, but any input on how long it took you to get rid of the head pressure would be appreciated.

Which supplements are you taking to reduce inflammation?

Magnesium
Fish oil, pharmaceutical quality
Systemic enzymes, such as Wobenzym
Antioxidants

The antibiotics that treat Bartonella cause oxidation, so antioxidants are not recommended as they will decrease the effectiveness of the medication.

However, our body needs antioxidants for the cells to work better, so I don't know what the answer is there.

Where is the head pressure? I have heard one well known Lyme doc state that pressure in the back of the head or the crown of the head is often related to Babesia. I don't know if that is true. I have pressure at the crown of my head. It responds best to Babesia meds. it has also responded to Rifampin (but not like babs meds).

Also, I have a positive test for Bart and I don't have a positive test for Babs. I am convinced that mine is from Babs. I have been treating for just over 2 years and the head pressure and severe brain fog seem to be the last symptoms remaining.

I should clarify that it is not painful (it's just pressure) and it is much much better than when I started treatment. The reason it concerns me is because it correlates with my brain issues, that's why I will be the happiest person ever when it is gone.

Hi Haley...thanks for the input. The head pressure is is primarily in the back and crown. I was negative for Babs and positive for Bart, but very recently, I started having night sweats...so I may need to look into possible Babs. Like you, it's not painful, but it's relentless. So you are saying two years...that's not what I was hoping to hear :-(
Thanks for the response!

Hi Philly...It's funny that you mention Bactrim. I was originally on Rifampin and Bactrim and it seemed to help a little. However, after about 10 days, I turned into a human strawberry from an allergic reaction to the Bactrim, so I had to stop. I was then switched over to the Rifampin / Biaxin combination. Doesn't seem to be as effective, but it I haven't been on it that long.

Regarding Antioxidant supplements...I take the Tegreen that Dr. B mentions in his guidelines. I also take Acetyl Carnitine and Sam-e.

Not sure if there are other good anti-oxidants, as I'm really not that well versed on the best supplements to take. Thanks for the response!

Jay,

Real bummer about your reactions to Bactrim...It really got my ear / head preasure a lot better. I am grateful I am able to take it.
