Sorry, for yet another post on this topic.....but I would appreciate hearing from anyone (especially those who are hypo and/or have hashimoto's) who has used or is currently using lugol's or iodoral to treat their thyroid nodules or goiter.

Please share your experience......did the iodine reduce the size of your nodule(s) etc?

Hi, I have Hashimoto's and hypo thyroid/goiter, I go to a very good specialist in Las Vegas for the past 6 years. He has not put me on either or those. I just monitor twice a year with ultrasound, blood work and take the levoxyl daily. He does not feel that lugol or iodoral is the way to reduce the nodules.

Gram5, did your specialist explain why it wasn't the right treatment?
Has your goiter reduced in size since taking levoxyl?

Anyone else?

Up.

I'm currently researching this right now.

If you read the reviews at Amazon.com for Iodoral, you'll see that many reviewers said that iodoral shrank their thyroid nodules down to nothing.

Here's what I just read online from here: http://www.lewrockwell.com/miller/miller20.html
quote:
Regarding KI and other iodine salts (like sodium iodide), the venerated 11th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, published in 1911, states, "Their pharmacological action is as obscure as their effects in certain diseased conditions are consistently brilliant. Our ignorance of their mode of action is cloaked by the term deobstruent, which implies that they possess the power of driving out impurities from the blood and tissues. Most notably is this the case with the poisonous products of syphilis. In its tertiary stage and also earlier this disease yields in the most rapid and unmistakable fashion to iodides, so much so that the administration of these salts is at present the best means of determining whether, for instance, a cranial tumor be syphilitic or not."
I also just purchased an ebook about iodine. I'll keep you posted if I learn anything useful. In the introduction it mentions that 150 years ago, iodine was the main treatment for thyroid goiter.

I'm also trying to shrink my nodules with iodine, but I just started learning about it today. Susan on the forum introduced me to it.

I used kelp, which contains high amounts of iodine, for years. I used it through my first pregnancy and my baby was obese. Afterwards I discovered excess iodine taken during pregnancy can cause hypothyroidism in babies.

LDN is supposed to cure thyroid diseases. You might give it a try if you do not want to use Armour.

JJ29,
I recently started Lugol's iodine drops for a multinodular goiter. My LLND said it would make the nodules go away. He went on to say that goiters are caused by inadequate iodine.

For me, too soon to tell.

imagine2, can you please describe how you take the drops? Do you put them in water? How many times daily? Would the Iodoral be a sufficient substitute? Are you doing urine iodine sufficiency tests, or do you just do the therapy without the tests?

Thanks!!

I posted in a fatigue thread, but I think it's relevant here too.

My wife and I both experienced fatigue and a very low body temp. My LLMD gave us Lugol's and instructed us to paint it on our wrists. It has helped tremendously. She said this is a thyroid issue and that the Lugol's would help regulate it, she also said this should go away once we complete our treatment.

I know we don't have a goiter or the other thing, but it's still thyroid related. We both had normal thyroid tests as well.

I have a very large multinodular goiter and I just sprinkle kelp on my salad. My goiter is definitely shrinking.

Nobody suggested this to me---I just started trying it. So far, so good!

Thank you all for your responses.

Nefferden, sorry for my ignorance, but what is LDN?

Imagine, can you explain how you are taking the drops and any other supplements that you are using in conjunction with the iodine?

Bleedgreen, how often do you apply the lugol's iodine on your wrist and have you noticed any improvement so far?

Susie, what brand of kelp are you using and how long were you using it before your goiter started shrinking? Is your thyroid issue caused by Hashimoto's?

I just read something amazing today. The "goiter belt" in the US was an area where a lot of the population had thyroid goiter. This was happening because the soil was deficient in iodine in those areas, so therefore their food was deficient in iodine. In other words, there's a 100% direct correlation between iodine deficiency and thyroid multinodular goiter.

Yet... somehow when we get goiter today, the doctors don't tell us anything about iodine deficiencies.

So sorry James and JJ29. I've been away from the board for a few days.

I take 4 drops of Lugol 2 x day in just about 1 1/2 T. of water.

You're right James....conventional drs. say "nobody knows what causes goiters". BUT natural medicine "gets it".

Oh James, I did not do the tests. When I asked my dr. if there was a test, he said," You don't need the test, the presence of your goiter is proof enough."

Imagine2: Awesome! Thanks a lot for the info.

My ND didn't mention to me anything about this, but I guess he didn't know. I might ask him what he thinks about it.

If anyone has their nodules shrink after starting the iodine, could you please post your progress here? I'm getting another ultrasound in 6 months, and I'm excited to see if this iodine will help. If my nodules shrink, I'll be sure to inform you guys.

We saw a ND a few months ago who tests through EDS. She said that most people are deficient in iodine and the thyroid needs it to function properly.

I and both my kids were borderline high. She put the kids on iodoral; I don't remember the exact dose, and after a few months, they tested mid-range normal.

She gave me a different supplement since I am allergic to iodine and mine came back to normal levels as well. It wasn't armour but something similar.

She said to keep the kids on the iodoral because our diets are so deficient we can't get enough.

We didn't have a goiter, but experienced thyroid issues, so I thought our experience might be of some help.
