Hello! I am new to this site. I am 59 years old and have probably had lyme for many many years. My CD 57 is a 19 and a recent test by NeuroScience has indicated that lyme is currently active in my system. I was diagnosed in 2009 and have had 5 months of oral doxycycline, rifampin and one month of flagyl. The good new is that I do not have very severe symptoms. I have very good energy but have some roving joint and muscle aches/pains, light sensitivity, blood shot eyes and an elevated ANA. I am being given the choice of IV ceftriaxone for one or two months only (otherwise it is not covered by insurance) or I am considering an herbal approach (similar to Steven Bhuner's). Have any of you with chronic lyme had any success with solely an herbal approach? My life feels manageable right now and I feel worried that if I start with IV antibiotics that I may start to feel worse and may get caught in the loop of not being able to manage for very long without having to get back on antibiotics. Curious about your thoughts! Thanks!

i used buhner after a lot of abx and they helped me for 3 yrs...maybe longer...i have new sx that may be good or bad-i know that sounds wierd...but i may just need to detox more
anyway---my answer to you is clear. if i had the choice i would do the IV - as much as i could get and then see how you are and then for sure maintain with the herbs
ive been dealing with this 30 yrs...i have found those who can get a good dose of abx-usually 3-5 yrs can get a life back and maintain on herbs

Thanks everyone for your input. Glad to hear sixgoofykids that you are well and that you were so helped by the photon therapy. Have never heard of this - will look into it. I live in the Boston area. Do doctors have the Bionic 880 or does one purchase one? Wondering where I could get this treatment here in the US. And Ipkayak thanks for your thoughts about starting with the IVS. These are such difficult decisions to make!
