ive been having a very hard time gaining weight. i saw my llmd yesterday and he gave me dome ideas such as prescription digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid.
he also said that a gram of protein/carbs have 4 calories while a gram of fat has 9. he said get more good fat like olive oil. so i went to the grocery store and saw that one tlb of olive oil has 120 calories. so i took a 1/4 cup and drank it down. i knock out 500 calories in a couple of gulps!
im thinking about doing this two times a day. is it safe to do this? anything i should be aware of before i get into it?
thanks

I hope it was extra virgin, EVOO You know that olive oil will differ in taste. I would get the good stuff. I don't think it will hurt you but I may be wrong. You could also cook something like sweet potatoe fries which will absorb the oil and eat that.

i thought about that but the good thing about drinking the oil is it doesnt fill me up. that way i can still have 3 normal meals then drink oil at the end of the night.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but they stopped giving nursing home patients castor oil bc they got pneumonia from it sticking to their lungs. I agree about the avocado instead:).

It might be best to add the oil to your food or take it at the end of your meal. If you take it alone or take too much at once it can cause diarrhea.

You need extra virgin, first cold press.
Not sure how much is good for you but heard in TV several times from very old people that they said they drink olive oil.
Not sure if it is save, just remembered the shows. Italians take a lot of olive oil on their salad, not just one spoon, so I guess several spoons in divided doses should be ok.

This is a herx, olive oil does bad herxes as it kills many bugs. So start slow next time after you recovered.

Hubby takes 1 tablespoon of olive oil after lunch and also after supper. Has been doing this for several years. He has a hard time absorbing fats so he takes ox bile supplements with his meals. Jarrow brand from Vita Cost is a good source.
He also takes pancreatin digestive enzymes and betaine hydrochloride supplements as well.

Eck! Reading it made me feel sick! Try young coconut milk and meats. At least that tastes better.

hm - I don't think one time would hurt you (unless it is a Herx like karen said)
but I would be concerned for my gall bladder or otehr organs called upon to process oil/fat
if I was thinking about doing it all the time
I don't know how much the system can handle
I think every mega-dose of anything can stress out parts of our bodies
I would probaly take the oil with food, spread out over the day...
if it was me

I agree with Harmony. My ND told me that I shouldn't do a gallbladder flush because, although it's beneficial for people who are burdened with toxins, for a somewhat-healthy person it is very taxing and "expensive" for the body to process.

When you eat fat, the gall bladder drips bile into the intestines. The bile saponifies the fat, or breaks it down into very small globules, so that it can be absorbed through villi in the intestinal walls into the bloodstream.
Some of the components of the bile are absorbed back into the bloodstream and reused by the liver to make more bile.
When you do a "bile flush," you eat a large amount of fat, which stimulates the gall bladder to release alot of bile.
If you have a stone in the bile duct, this might push it a bit farther so that it gets stuck. This results in a "gall bladder attack," which is quite painful.
If your system doesn't put out enough bile to digest the fat, it will go through the intestines and you will have a greasy stool. You may notice oil floating on the surface of the water in the toilet.
When you do a bile flush and take something that causes loose stools, the intestinal contents are passing through so quickly that the bile components cannot be reabsorbed. The liver needs these bile salts, and has to make more of them.
This might be why James's naturapathic doctor told him that it is "expensive" for the body to process.

Carol - thanks a lot for the wonderful explanation!
Do you think that it's just as taxing on the body to eat too much oil, or is it an entirely different process than doing a bile flush?
