I was curious to know which combination of meds. works best for Bartonella.
Minocycline with Rifampin or
Azithromycin with Rifampin?
I was on Bactrim and just couldn't tolerate all the side effects.
Thanks again..

Exactly the same question I just asked! I hope there's a good answer. For me, Doxycycline was very helpful but I know you can't take that in the summer. I have yet to take Mino. and Zith helped for 2 weeks then seemed to do nothing.

Although the possible side effects (tendon ruptures) are a concern.
I'd assume rifampin + zithro would work better than mino + rifampin in attacking Bart, but don't expect there would be a whole lot of difference either way. Minocycline (or I should say doxy, not sure about mino) or zithromax can weaken some Bart strains, but it's not really enough to get rid of it.

Rifampin with Doxy (or Minocycline, since they're practically the same thing) is better than Azithromycin; bartonella takes a LONG time to become resistant to Doxy, whereas it can become resistant to Zithro with just a few lapses in therapy. Both are good, though. I herxed too severely with the Doxy combo and had to switch to Rif/Zith.
You have to avoid sunlight with ALL these antibiotics except Rifampin--Doxy, Mino, and Zith all cause sun sensitivity. I never got that symptom on Doxy but I did on Zith. Just whatever you choose, start small!!!

I tried all of the abxs listed below, but I really did not get back to 100% until I did 6 months of tindamax (500mg) and cipro (250mg) twice daily with meals. I was lucky to have little to no side effects from this combo, whereas doxy and flagyl really bothered me.
I was fine for a year until I had a bad URI and took a z-pak. Within a few weeks, my bart symptoms started to come back, so I have started on tind/cipro combo again. My bart symptoms started to lessen within days of going back on this combo.

I am doing mino, rifampin and levaquin with tindamax and artemesia. We are targeting Lyme and bart. My babesia is better.
Today is a tindamax and artemesia day with all the other stuff. Not doing too well.
