...For example, having just started treating my early disseminated Lyme (had symptoms 7 weeks, which began including CNS & cardio) a few weeks ago, I've noticed "flashes" of symptoms I thought were gone, that come back briefly out of nowhere.

Now, I was expecting this, having studied the Herx, but my impression from reading others' experiences was that all the symptoms came back simultaneously in a Herx.

Mine have been anything but. I had what felt like a heart/cardio Herx within 3 days of starting meds, haven't had one again.

Had a "head/brain" herx a week ago, again it only lasted less than a day. Felt like my original head-rush symptoms, only briefer.

Today, my lower lip went numb and felt like it was quivering, all by itself, for hours. The lip hasn't felt numb since 3 1/2 weeks ago, when I first started on doxy. But it's starting to feel like that symptom is fading again, too.

So I guess my question is, do Herxes not necessarily happen all over your body at the same time, but can happen separately, depending on whether it's the CNS, skin, heart, etc.? Especially in someone who had not yet gotten to the Chronic stage.

I was expecting one big reaction from all bodily systems at once; instead I'm getting single significant reactions from one system at a time, spread out.

I think this sounds pretty normal for me...

It probably shows improvement.

Are you shifting medicines or on one single one?

I'm just on 1 abx, 400 mg of Doxy daily for the last week, up from 200 mg/day which I took the first 2 weeks. Will be continuing on the 400 mg for the time being.

Generally feeling like I'm seeing improvement, yes! Nothing feels as bad as it did a month ago.

But the odd returning symptoms (which I am guessing are separate Herxes?) still return to haunt me just when I think I'm recovering, and I've never really gotten rid of the general feeling of malaise. Joint pains, head pressure, heart issues, and numbness have all generally backed off. Fatigue is still present, but much less so than the crippling fatigue of a month ago... which is good because I have to work!

Thanks for the insight; I'll take anything optimistic at this point! One good thing is i haven't had any new symptoms since starting medications- just flashbacks (and migrations) of the old ones.

I should also add, I am on about a dozen different supplements, probiotics, and antioxidants as well-- everything from Vitamin C to Garlic to CO-Q-10 and a bunch of stuff in between.

I take an Epsom bath almost daily as well.

I guess, first thing I would say, follow your gut! if you feel something is going bad, you are probably right.

Sometimes some people can't tolerate the medicine itself.

When I herxed and improved, places without any pain started to have pain (like parts of my back, or arms) and I think I had infection there without having clear symptoms. When the remedy killed something there, I felt then pain.

It could be also rise in toxins, so you have to go on binders to clean your body from die off.

Anyway, when you get different symptoms, it can be only 3 things, that come to my mind:

1- you are getting better (like I described above, herxing and improving),

2- or you are getting worse (infection is spreading). Wrong treatment, or inneficient, or bad drug for your body.

3 - It could also be excess of toxins causing symptoms, and this is not good, in my opinion. You must clean, or you can go backwards (in my experience).

Toxins can be from the drug itself or from herxes, or both.

These are just my guesses! If you feel bad, just back off killing and consult your doctor or add cleansers!

Thanks, Brussels! Since generally I feel like my health is going in the right direction, I think it's probably #1. I haven't had any truly "new" symptoms since starting treatment-- just brief recurrences of the old ones. I know this is to be expected, so I'll just go with it!
