I was listening to Sirius on the way back from Albuquerque. I tried the 40's and 50's and 60's and so forth. Everyone sounded very off key and terrible. I finally turned it off. I know it's not my car cuss it's new and has an upgraded Bose six speaker system. I asked him and he said he thought the sound was fine. But it sounded like everyone was flatting out and out of key. This is so strange. Has anybody had this?

Randi, Make sure you weren't listening to country music, because that always sounds off key and terrible.
Have you tried a hard rock station?
Just kidding. I hope someone can give you a better answer than mine.

It can make normal sounds seem intense & louder to the point it actually hurts, it can make you lose hearing, it can make your ears ring...it can distort your hearing.
I know because these things happened to me.
The ringing in my ears WAS NOT DUE to taking any antibiotics, it was a symptom, in fact it was one of the major symptoms that help discover i had lyme. that & i started to not be able to hear things, like the phone ringing, or certain sounds.
it was discovered that i had some hearing loss, which was unusual for my age considering i didn't work or "play" in an atmosphere that could damage my hearing, you know like running a jack-hammer or working in a loud factory.
Yet some sounds seemed LOUDER, supersensitized, to the point i had to remove myself from the noise or remove the noise itself, aka, no radio, or tv etc, it has gotten better in that respect, but my ears still ring, & i can't hear certain pitch sounds at all, yet other sounds seem loud when i know they shouldn't seem that loud.
maybe you should schedule an appt with an ear doc just to get a baseline & see if your hearing is intact.
i found taking high dose of sublingual vitamin B-12 helped me a little, my level was on the low end when i was tested. I still take vitamin b-12, just not as often as in the beginning. i used to take it everyday, now maybe only 1 time a week, but it is a higher dosage than what the rda recommends if that is of any concern to you.
i read a study that stated that 2500 mcg of sublingual b-12 helps with ringing of the ears in SOME people. please note that this is like 41,000% higher than what the rda is, & i am not a medical person of any sort, just a Lymie.
when i mentioned this to my LLMD he had my vitamin B level tested, mine was at the very bottom end of the healthy range, he said the suppliment was okay for me to take & see what results i got.
PS james1979- your response was funny, still giggling over that one. Lol

I listen to classical, old rock and roll, country (cause I am a Texan), western like marty Robbins, reggae, and spiritual. Absolutely no hard rap or modern. My ears just could not take it. And I keep he volume down. Course when I'm listening to husband it's great. Cause I don. 't hear him

Sadly, Lyme can effect every organ in our body and left untreated, it spreads. And yes, hearing can definitely be something that would be a factor. I would definitely let your LLMD know so he/she can perhaps put you on a med that will fight that symptom.
I also know that I had hearing difficulties when on certain abx so sometimes it's not the disease but the med you are on, hence, again, discussing it with your LLMD. Good luck.

i was completely deaf in one ear right at the onset of the rest of my hardcore symptoms
Ear problems were my 1st Lyme symptom goig back 6 - 7 years. No doc, specialist accupuncturist or anyone could find anything wrong with me. It wasnt until I completely lost my hearing that one doc went looking for Lyme, which he found...
Ear issues are one of my worst symptoms, and they don't seem to let up

Lymeboy- did you get any of your hearing back?
annxyzz- did you get any of your hearing back?
Do you have "ringing" of ears as well? or supersensitised hearing? aka sounds that actually hurt when you hear them?
Was there anything that you took or did that you feel helped you with the hearing issues?
Thx

Yes My hearing came back over the course of about 5 days. At the time I figured it was because I was riding a motorcycle without earplugs in high winds. But along with the Ear problems came dizziness, brain fog and major fatigue. I am lucky to be alive. Everything came crashing down smack in the middle of the country! Double vision, fever, the works.
Now I am dealing with a lot of tinnitus, and sound sensitivity. My ears are constantly clogged. Doctors do not seem to want to address this. I have seen all kinds of ent's otolaryngologists, etc. To no avail. They all told me I was fine. I have been to 2 different Lyme docs, and it seemed like they were not sure what to do for it.
As far as I can tell, it seems that ear issues are hard to treat. I would sure like some relief.

Lymeboy- I understand where you are coming from.
I did get some relief from the sublingual vitamin b-12, it is a high dose. I also take vitamin D & a variety of other OTC things, i suppose it could be a combo of things, but i think the B-12 is a big part of it for me.
I also use the sauna on a regular basis,I read a few studies about body temp. so i exercise as much as i can to elevate my body temp , use the sauna & hot tub as much as i can when i get to the gym. the sauna really seems to help me... not sure why, but it does, some days i can only do a minute or two, other days i can stay in there much longer. I used to never be able to take a hot shower without feeling like i was going to pass out, now i enjoy the hot temps & incorporate it in my daily life.
My tinitus varies in loudness. I have noticed when my stress level is higher , my tinitus kicks in harder. Same with if i get a cold etc, my tinitus likes to kick me when i am down. i just try to kick it back with the exercise/sauna program i have going.
Mine is NOT related to meds/abx. I am off abx
I do feel clogged sometimes & sometimes take a decongestant. Does that give you any kind of relief? The clogged feeling i used to have everyday, now it is much less.
