I got my H. Pylori test back today (blood test) it's negative.
Background: I tested positive for H. Pylori in a stool screening around Jan 2011 at Diagnos-Techs
I treated with 2 abx and 1 proton pump inhibitor and drank lots of cabbage juice.
I got super sick and it was hard for my body to recover from that even a few months after.
Doing better now, but the other day I had cabbage juice again and I got a tiny bit nauseous like when I was on treatment and drinking the cabbage juice.
The stool test also found trichinella and equivocal roundworm, +toxplama, + for antibodies against eggs, dairy, gluten, wheat, soy.
What are others opinions, do you think this blood test for H. Pylori is accurate? or do I need to invest in another expensive-a$$ stool test?

After my husband was treated for helicobacter, he did a breath test to confirm that it was gone.
However, if you are on antibiotics, you may not be able to do the breath test.
Also, it was very obvious to us that the helicobacter was gone as his terrible symptoms were GONE!
I thought the breath test was the standard test used to determine if the treatment was successful.

Since the blood test is looking for antibodies, I don't see how it can distinguish between present and past infection, especially an infection in the recent past.
My husband was tested and treated by a gastro who was the head of the gastro dept in a major hospital in our area. So, I trust that he knew the best way to see if the treatment had been successful. He had him do the breath test.

I had a stomach ulcer many years ago when I was in college, which was before they discovered that 95% of ulcers were caused by H. pylori. It finally went away after several years of tagamet and zantac. I now know I probably caught it from my roommate who had an ulcer.
Probably 15 years later, I started to have the same type of stomach pain and cramping as when I had an ulcer. My fam doc tested me for H.pylori but went ahead and gave me abxs for it. The H.pylori test later came back negative, which was wrong, because the abxs cured my new ulcer within a couple of weeks.
Lucky for me, my fam doc believes in clinical diagnosis and treats the patient, not just the test.

that's interesting Jason. Glad you got proper treatment!
I never had an ulcer, never really had any symptoms of H. Pylori even. Maybe it was a new infection and my body never developed antibodies to it, I dont know.
I'm going to assume I'm done with it.
The only thing I wonder about is does cabbage juice make everyone nauseous?
My mom has an ulcer but tested negative for H.Pylori from a stool test.
I don't trust my local lab. They are small town idiots. The last blood draw I got, I walked out with a thrombophlebitis because the schmuck didn't know what he was doing.

My husband has had stomach acid for years and years. Always tested negative for h.pylori with endoscopies. Took rifampin last year for Bart and he's not had acid since. Proved to me the tests are not accurate.
