I finished abx on Tuesday, the same day I had a massage/acupuncture session. I felt the massage was a little too deep.

Today is Friday and the muscle spasms have increased in my neck and around my skull. I feel very bad and I am getting upset. I am not functioning.

Do you think it is the massage or going off abx? Or a combination of the two?

Sorry you feel so rough. Can you provide more info? Like..

How long were you on antibiotics?

What were you being treated for?

Sorry it is hard to try to help without knowing more back ground.

I have been afraid to have a massage after someone told me it would cause a flare....but I read about you all getting massages, so it must be ok?

Would live to have one......

I was on abx for 3 weeks: 1 week of Biaxin and 2 weeks of Doxy. The infectious disease doctor is not sure if my Lyme returned after 10 years or it is something else.

I am waiting for blood work results to see what to do next.

Would I still be feeling awful from the massage on Tuesday? Should I ask for more abx?

I am really confused and I am a teacher who is returning to work on Tuesday.

If you are not functioning, and you've been treated by a traditional ID doc, I'm afraid that my opinion is that you have been inadequately treated.

Please consider seeing a "Lyme Literate" doctor. Lyme Disease (and its associated co-infections) can be challenging to beat.

I know it's overwhelming and frightening when you first realize you have a serious illness that most of mainstream medicine has NO IDEA how to treat. Once you get yourself educated and get into treatment with a good provider, you can concentrate on getting well.

You might consider posting for a doc in your area in the SEEKING DOCTOR section of this website.

You have to do gentle detox after a massage or acupuncture...like lemon water and epsom salt baths.

Are you feeling any better yet?

I have heard some people with "conditions" do get to feeling pretty poorly after a massage, but it usually doesn't last but a day or two.

My extreme head and neck spasms are better today. What do you mean by lemon water? Do I drink lemon water all day and not eat? I do feel toxic.

No, you can eat...but drink lots of water with fresh squeezed lemon in it...light meals...you need food for energy.

I agree with Susie. If you were treated only for three weeks, there's a good chance that you were not treated long enough. I was treated for three YEARS to get better from Lyme. It can take a long time and ID doctors or even PCP's who look at what the ID doctors say, inadequately treat.

See these sites for information - www.ilads.org and www.underourskin.com (watch the trailer, the movie is available on Hulu and Netflix).

pini, i agree with everyone here. massage mobilizes toxins, you need a LOT of water to get everything in constant movement so you can get them out of you.

i drink a gallon of water per day. after a massage day, I drink more than a gallon. I'm 114 lbs and 5'8''. Do I go to the bathroom a lot...yes. but that is the point. Must keep things moving.

I juice a lemon a day and have it in some veggie juice. But sometimes I hand squeeze a half lemon and put it in a 50 oz bottle of water.

Yes, deep tissue massage can stir things up a bit. Happens to me all the time. I love getting massages but then I pay for it for the next two days! So now I only do relaxation type of massages.

I don't have issues w/ acupuncture. Lemon water definitely helped me but destroyed my teeth (even w/ the straw). I have found much better methods to of detoxing so I gave up lemon water for now. Not worth having teeth problem in my opinion.

Scorpiogirl, what other methods do you use to detox? I am having problems with my teeth/lemon too.

Pini, I also have not had a problem with acupuncture. I don't know how anyone deals with lyme without it! It really helps me.

I think the massage after the acupuncture was the problem.

I take Milk Thistle, Castor Oil Packs, Dry Brushing, Epsom Salt bath, and Cholestyramine.

I think for me the Castor Oil packs is the most effective method. Whenever my liver enzymes are elevated, Castor oil packs always helped to bring the levels back to the normal range in a matter of days. It's so relaxing as well!

Scorpiogirl, thanks! How often do you use the packs (I don't know when my liver enzymes are elevated)? Also, how much milk thistle do you take?

I need to find a latex free water bottle.
