My cousin called me tonight. Last Sat she found a tick on her. A few days later she got cold type symptoms and a rash. She went to her doc and they tested. It came came back positive.

The good thing is they caught it soon. She was very freaked out knowing what I have been through. I tried to put her mind at ease and how important early detection and treatment is.

So far she has no symptoms other than the cold like symptoms she had but those have since gone away.

Unfortunately her doctor said that Lyme is no big deal and that 10 days on doxy she would be fine. I hope in her case that is the case. However I suggested she ask for 60 days. She doesn't think her doc will do it. There are no llmds near where she lives as far as I know. I will post in looking for a doc section to see if hopefully I am wrong.

Do you agree 60 days is what she should be given?

I am collecting links and articles I can find that talk about the usually prescribed doxy duration by most docs is not enough. If you have any articles, links, suggestions in general that would be great.

I am hoping she can go to her doc with a few printed out and make her case that she understands the controversary but she would rather be safe than sorry and she understands the risks of abx but and she accepts those risks.

I don't think anyone really knows. I have spoken with so many people that had that happen and did the 2-4 weeks of doxy at the very start. They were fine for years then 8-10 years down the line they get sick.
It is hard to believe that even early infection doesn't form cysts. Seems to me that even early would need a cyst buster. Just my non medical ramblings.

I agree with cleo...it is hard to say how long to be on abxs, but the longer the better is logical and it has to be at least 400mg a day for effectiveness.

Any more advice I can pass along to her?

I am going to suggest she do cowden or white herbals for a month or two as well.

The spirochetes replicate every 3-5 wks... so I would want 8 wks myself.
