Good question, I have been wondering the same thing, what is the success rate of Rocephin? 1.) 3 months 2.) 1 time 3.) relapsed after 3 weeks, now on orals.

2 weeks in 1994 when first got lyme. 1 month in nov. 2000 after relapse
In 1994 i only had the rash and bells palsy. was fine after the iv. It was not enough though because I relapsed last year. Had one month of Rocephin and my joint pains were almost all gone. Removed from it because tests were negative. Was put on doxy (did nothing) in January, and now on Ceftin (see some improvement). Rocephin was the best for me.

1. 3 months (nobody gets longer than that in Canada, I venture to say)
2. just once
3. It wasn't the miracle I had hoped for. Three symptoms improved: my balance, my knees, and my fatigue (went from napping at 11:00 a.m. every day to not getting bagged till late afternoon many days.) The improvement in fatigue allowed me to drive short distances again. All other symptoms remained unchanged, or got worse/returned, plus I got a few new symptoms. Nowhere near a 100% recovery.
3) 1st time - got somewhat better, but quickly relapsed. 2nd time - well, just finished yesterday & it still wasn't enough. The only difference is that I didn't have the jt pain as much. But I was herxing this week badly & I just wish I would have had one more week! But Dr. took me off & started me on Suprax 800 mg/day.

On Rocephin 6 weeks. One time. Felt pretty good for about 2 months only. Went on an herbal regime 3 months after Rocephine and was absolutely normal for 3 weeks only. Am on suprax now for 4 months and am not doing well. God Bless Theresa

1. 3 months
2. 1 time
3. didnt get any better till 7th week than got much better.12th week i was 90% back to me but silly dr. said no one treats w this longer than 3 months....so i relapsed 3 days after it came out. i was on orals after it came out until 3 weeks ago when i started injections.
3. Great improvement at first. Have been off now for 5 months. Not feeling too good. Am going to go back to my doctor to be rechecked for everything. But after being on this site--I'm not sure I can trust his opinion or treatment.

Up, to SAVE.
Even though the info in this topic is already a bit "out-dated" now -- thanks to the fact that we now know that Rocephin must be combined together with one of the "azoles" (metronidazole/Flagyl or tinidazole/Fasigyn) to target the "cyst-like" form of Bb in order to prevent relapse later -- I'm "saving" it now by updating its dateline.
I don't want to see us lose this topic/poll from the archives here at LymeNet when our Moderator "cleans out the closet" and eliminates older topics, because this poll illustrates the responses which folks gave just a couple of short years ago, BEFORE the LLMDs started using the combination antibiotic protocols, such as Rocephin plus an azole. Lest we forget....

As the last post to this topic said it is an old one however can be of much help to those of us that are on or getting ready to start rocephin treatment. I have spoken with a LLMD in NJ that uses 56 weeks of IV Reocephin treatment in combination with 250mg of Zithromax every other day. He has a Lyme Clinic up there and was tha only office I have spoken with in months that was willing to give me information on proper testing and treatment. Hope with helps those of you still looking for answers like myself.

Thought I'd get in on this poll.
1.) how long on rocephin? four months (went off because it caused gallstones. switched to IV zithro for two months.)
2.) how many times? once (hopefully going back on it again soon)
3.) anyone 100% better after iv? I was probably about 80% better for about four or five months after stopping but began slipping backwards after that.

Hi! 1)6 weeks daily and then later in the year 12 weeks but only five days a week. Then combined it with high dose doxy and did two shots a week. 3)Felt the best I have after the 12 weeks of 5 days a week but deteriorated after 3 weeks of stopping.Just wasn't enough.

First four weeks I had improvement in endurance in pain but herxed emotrioinally, had to break for four weeks because of insurance issues and quickly within days relapsed.
Second four saw no improvement actually further decline. LLMD wanted me to continue for two more weeks but insurance wouldn't cover and I just didn't see the benefit.
I was not on any other antibiotic with the rocephin, though I have a very reputable LLMD, he did not order orals, not sure why.
Worse now than prior to the rocepin.
Was that all of the questions for the poll??
Stupid lyme brain!!!
Blessings to all

OK, let's see if I counted correctly, this post had 27 before this one on the subject of Rocephin working or not.
About 4-5 posts were just comments and bringing back to the top, so let's say 23 actually were about whether Rocephin had worked for them...
AND,
If I counted correctly, that's 19 out of about 23 posts that said they have not gotten the results that Rocephin has been projected they they would get.
Just wondering when everyone will get this message?
I, personally, think that Rocephin was the worst thing that I have ever done to my body even worst than what Paxil, the evil drug, did to me. I don't think my body will ever recover from what Rocephin did to me and I just want to pass this on for those sitting on the fence about the super powerful, yet, non-effective drug for LD.
This is just MY OPINION which I got from experience with using this drug for 4.5 months. It's been two years now and I still haven't recovered from it.

I finally figured out why I've felt gradually worse after a rocephin/flagyl combo- I have/had a *very bad* systemic yeast infection with a possible complication of other molds. It's been effecting all of me including my brain. I live in N.Ca- the pacific northwest- mold capital.
It will be interesting to me to see how I feel after getting rid of the yeast and molds. I'm wondering how many others may have this same unnoticed problem after rocephin- it's strong stuff. This could be why that study found lyme patients who had taken rocephin improved dramatically after 20 days of 200mg diflucan...

I have had 4 lots of rocephin-1/ 6weeks(7 days a week) -2/12 weeks(2 days a week) -3/10 weeks(2 times a week) -4/8months(3 times a week)
I would have to agree with quite a few of the others that I have persevered but don't believe it is doing anything wonderful here.I would have a few week after the first couple of courses when I felt better( about 70%) and then back to where I started or worse.I have been feeling worse than ever at the moment.

7 straight months so far 3 grams everyday 7 days a week.
this is the only time on IV After 1 1/2 years on orals with NO improvemnnt but getting worse. Was walking with a walker because of pain.
Trying to get atleast 1 straight year of IV. Have improved 80%. It has saved my life.
I believe the ones who have been on this poll so far and relapsed is because 6 or 8 or 12 weeks here or there is not gonna cut it.
That is my opionin based only on what I have read and seen.
Orals, injections, combos, they done nothing. The IV never showed great improvement till around the 16th week. So, ones that have been on it less then that may not be getting it long enough.
Granted, liver is doing great, all blood work is great, and the insurence company has been great. With that said I know alot of people cannot do IV for any length of time.
And I think if you can't do it for a long length of time then it will not work. Even then it may not.
Just wanted to say this so the ones doing it or thinking of doing it hear both sides...
