Hi Eveyone,
I have been taking 100 mg of doxy twice daily for the last month for what my doc believes to be chronic lyme. My worst symptom is head & scalp tingling, pain, itching. My symptoms seemed to settle when I first began the doxy, but at day 20 became much worse. I felt exhausted, detached, foggy and a larger area of my scalp began to bother me and also into my right eye. I am freaking out...is this a herx or should I be worried that it's something more? I had an MRI done about 1 1/2 years ago for similar symptoms and all came back normal. I could definitely use some support-I'm really scared and worried and wondering if I'm treating the right thing now...

It may be a herx. But 200mg/day Doxy isn't enough to really get rid of Lyme. Are you seeing an LLMD?

I am seeing a doctor who supposedly knows his stuff about lyme. He started me out on a low dose and then wants me to try 300 mg day. I'm afraid to take the doxy because I worry that maybe I'm having a reaction to it. I'm supposed to check in with him at the end of the month. Should I call him sooner?

Your symptoms sound to me like a herx. Has your doctor talked with you about detoxing or using probiotics?

Detoxing (soaking in a bathtub, dry skin brushing, IR sauna, etc.) can reduce the severity of herxes by helping your body to eliminate the toxins created by the killing of Lyme bacteria.

Probiotics can support gut health in the setting of long-term antibiotics (prevention of Candida/yeast overgrowth, C. Diff., etc.).

Thanks for the advice, Razzle. I am taking acidopholis to help support my gut, but I can't seem to kick this other "stuff". I haven't done much detoxing. I have taken a day or two off when it gets really bad.

Broad spectrum of high quality probiotics is the way to go. I also take a good yeast which fights candida and doesn't do you harm. Get to a LLMD, you should be taking multiple abx for chronic infection.

Itching and scalp tingling (and fogginess) sounds like yeast to me. You need more than "acidophilus" to prevent yeast. You need TONS of HIGH QUALITY probiotics. And now, you may need a yeast KILLER.

That said .. We do herx more strongly every 3-5 wks.

Excellent probiotics:

Whatever you take, take a minimum of at least 100 billion CFU's per day. Wish someone had told me that 10 yrs ago!
