I was recently bit or rather I should say the rash showed up one week ago. I was diagnosed yesterday from Internal Medicine doctor and a friend of mine that is a dermatologist.
My friend put me on 100 mg Doxy for 20 days (mind you this was after a doc put me on Ceftin a couple of days before then and said he didn't think I had Lyme). The Internal Medicine doc said that 20 days should work but after reading so many internet suggestions I am thinking that it has be stronger and longer.
What does everyone think? [group hug]

The short answer is "no."

The long answer is "noooooooooooooo."

From what I've read, you'll probably get to feeling better, then relapse later.

NOPE. I would want 200mg of doxy TWICE a day for 6-8 wks if I were bitten again.

Yeah it's enough. There's about a 50% cure rate with that protocol. If you like taking chances and "living on the edge", then it's definitely enough.

I tried to do it like that, but after I stopped the abx all of my symptoms came back within a day.

On the other hand, if you prefer to have chances better than 50/50, then I would prefer to do as Lymetoo has said above, with 200mg twice a day for 6-8 weeks.

Edit: I should also note: I was COMPLETELY healthy before I got the tick bite. I had the healthiest diet, and I was in very good physical shape. I was able to do 40 pushups in a row, baby. So please don't give yourself the excuse that "the other people got sick because they weren't healthy". I think that's probably the #1 "excuse" people give themselves for justifying improper treatment.
