My 12-yr old daughter was just diagnosed with Lyme.
( Igenex: IgM: 31 +, 41 +. IgG: 41 ++. )
Her only symptoms that I can see are fatigue.... not severe, she still goes to middle school full-time and plays soccer, but she is often more tired than I think a girl should be (too tired to hike or play with friends, just wanted to stay home and read in the summer, etc).
I had her tested for iron, thyroid, Vitamin D, etc. and just threw in the Lyme testing because she had been briefly been bitten by a tick when she was a toddler.
My questions: Her naturopath (LLMD but fairly new to it) wants to start with oral amoxicillin and Flagyl.
Is this a good place to start?
Any other advice/thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks in advance, for any help,
KrystalKlear

Very good regiment for kids and a great place to start, in my experience (I'm not a doctor.)
Amoxy is fabulous for lyme (particularly if probenecid is added) and Flagyl will get the cysts. Flagyl can be tough to handle so be prepared for a big flare the first few days.
I would also ask for Nystatin to prevent yeast. It is gentle and effective.
You can also do Tindamax instead of Flagyl but that is more expensive.

My six years old is on Amoxicillin for now. We will be adding Tindamax next month. I don't like to overwhelm her with too much all at once.
She was on probiotics and enzymes a month before starting Amoxicillin, which I highly recommend! I too started supplements 3 weeks prior to starting my meds. Just giving our guts a head start. Good luck!

Thank you, both of you, for that information.
I am also wondering about starting her on herbs, probably the Buhner protocol, before antibiotics? What do you think of that idea?
Although I believe she has had the lyme for at least several years, she is not that sick.... just tired (although still functions at normal level).
Thanks, Krystal Klear

If she had just been bitten, I'd say no, go on the abx right away. But, since she is doing pretty well and has had it a long time, I personally would probably see if herbs did the trick. if she was bitten about ten years ago, it's not like you have a fight against time.

You know my LLMD only treats if there are symptoms... regardless of what the blood test said. So if she has very few symptoms I agree, go w/ the herbs.
Right now I'm trying to learn of other methods (PE-1, Rife Machine, etc) so I can pull DD off Antibiotics. I do not want her on it long term! There has to be other options!

Hi KrystalKlear:
Our 11 year old has Lyme and Babesia. Besides the fatigue, fevers, air hunger etc she also slowly developed the neurological symptoms so be on the watch for those.
It is hard for the children to explain but tingling in the legs and then arms and then losing the ability to remember words and read.
Hopefully your daughter doesn't reach that level.
Good luck.

Welcome to the club! My 13 yr old daughter has lyme too.
She has constant nausea, pain in the neck, back, and migrating in various places, headaches, and trouble breathing. Also neuro and eye symptoms. Also has yeast, Q fever, FL1953 bug, and parasites.
We are only one month into current treatment of minocycline, alinia, diflucan, cholyestramin, VIP. I can't tell you what works well yet! We have changed protocols a few times - I have learned it is important to stay with it, it takes time. Also can be important to know what coinfections etc you are dealing with to better target it.
Best of luck, Lori
