Hello,

I went to a radiologist in CT today to get my picc line inserted. They were all very nice and felt I was in good hands. Upon lying down today, I noticed I got a lot of heart palpitations.

It is hard to distinguish what is from lyme and from the PICC. Has anyone experienced this w/Picc lines?

PS- I have yet to infuse medication yet. I will tomorrow when the at home nurse comes to my apartment.

If you continue to have the heart palpitations or any heart symptoms, please call your doctor.

The tip of your PICC line tip is supposed to end in the lower SVC (just above the heart). If it goes just a little too far and enters the heart it can irritate the muscle and cause symptoms like palpitations.

If your doctor suspected this they would evaluate you, check x-ray placement of the PICC, and possibly pull the line out slightly so that it is properly positioned.

Take care and good luck with your new treatment tomorrow [Smile]

Yep that happened to me all three time I got my lines placed!! For some reasons when you're laying down the line is in perfect place. Once you get up it might have moved. Mine were 2 inches too deep and had to be pulled out each time!! NOT fun!

If you can't take a deep breath w/out coughing or if it hurts when you bend over to tie your shoes then you need to get it xrayed. Give it a day or two and see if the problem goes away. Good luck!
