Hello everyone,

I would like to share my story with you

I was recently diagnosed with Lyme this past summer (in July). I got the usual symptoms that come with the onset of the disease. I was sick and couldnt eat a thing for about 4 days, fatigue, dizzy, and some minor joint pain. I went to a health clinic because I was away from my primary care doctor. The nurse referred me to my doctor and actually did mention lyme disease. I started to feel better and didnt end up seeing my doctor until I got multiple small painless red rashes (one on my forearm, and one under my armpit and one on my right side) They did not appear to have the *bulls eye* but were circular. So I went to the doctor, (about 2 weeks have passed since Ive been sick). I got the Lyme Titer and Western Blot to confirm the diagnosis of Lyme. I was then put on the standard 3 week Doxycycline round which I started immediately. One week after treatment I started to get a pain on my right side (after a weekend of drinking, which I have stopped since). I went to the hospital and they found blood in the urine and an inflammed pancreas. They said it did not appear to be relative to my lyme disease and diagnosed me with a lumbar strain. Anyway the pain subsided, however shortly after I started to get serious neurological symptoms (which I still have) such as muscle twitching, tingling in left arm, and a feeling of vertigo (chair shaking when totally still). These began to scare me so I went for another Lyme test which came back positive again. I am currently on another round of doxy and the twitches have subsided but are still there along with other symptoms such as floaters in the eyes, and vertigo sometimes. Any suggestions on where to go from here? I am 24 and thought I caught the disease quick enough to be successfully treated. I appreciate any feedback and I pray for us all who are suffering from this disease.

You can be successfully treated and you did catch it early, so hopefully it won't be too hard to treat. However, you need to find a doctor who doesn't talk in terms of "rounds" of doxycycline, rather in terms of "let's treat until you are better." You wouldn't stop treating strep throat when your throat still hurts, right?

Please see the treatment guidelines at www.ilads.org

Also post in seeking a doctor to find a doctor near you who will treat you until you're better. Chances are that you weren't treated long enough or with a high enough dosage.

You might also want to watch Under Our Skin on Netflix or Hulu.

Good luck!!

Shaneo, send me a personal message if you'd like a good Lyme doc in the Philly area. You need to get tested for coinfections, as well.
