I have been sick for years with chronic fatigue and exhaustion. It wasn't until recently they diagnosed me with chronic ebstein barre virus. The numbers for the titers keep going up and up, more positive. They ran a bunch of tests, including Lyme through Sonora Quest. Apparently the Lyme [sleepy] was negative and they didn't run all the other co-infection tests, since the first step of the process was negative. They also found a positive streptozyme test. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I am seriously considering getting the Lyme test thru Igenix or Frys, but am skeptical as I don't have a lot of money after the dozens I've spent going to doctors and E.R.s all for them to tell me I am crazy! My I.D. doc put me on antibiotics for two weeks, and I was feeling a little better. I am off now and feel so tired again. He says he will recheck everything in two months, but I am soooo impatient. I am tired of waiting, as this has gone on long enough. Hopefully some members can give me some insight, or share their experiences.

Yes...strep is somewhat common amongst lyme patients. I had severely high levels of strep. It took 2 years to get my levels down and we still have to keep watch to keep them down.

My LLMD runs the DNASE B test, the ASO test, and the Streptozyme test. All three of those check strep levels. We use all three to keep an eye on my strep.

Strep with lyme can be VERY difficult to treat and can definitely contribute to your symptoms.

I would definitely get in to see an LLMD if you can. I.D. doctors are notoriously bad for diagnosing and/or treating lyme.

Take Care!
Pam

Sick since 10/2001. Tested CDC positive for Lyme 10/2008 through Quest and Igenex. Started treatment 1/2009 with LLMD. Lyme, Erichilosis, Chlamydophila Pneumoniae, Q Fever, Strep Syndrome and probably a few others I am forgetting.

Can you high levels of strep without having a sore throat? If so are there any other symptoms of strep?

Yep...I didn't even know that I had strep! Didn't have the sore throat like someone normally would have with strep. There are other symptoms but I have no clue which ones are from strep because as usual they seem to overlap with lyme symptoms.

I think the symptoms of chronic strep are likely not the same as acute strep. I had strep when I was a teenager and just remember how awful the sore throat was...so bad it was like torture just to swallow my own spit. Also fever and flu like etc.

This chronic strep isn't like that at all. No sore throat etc.

All I can tell you is that once we got the strep down this year I did notice a bit more energy which is nice since that awful fatigue is one of my main symptoms. My LLMD did say that getting the strep down would help that and so far it has.

Thanks for the information. The doc also did a throat culture that was negative for strep, meaning it's living elsewhere. I need to get these tests thru igenex...does anyone know if a LLMD has to order and draw for these? Or can I have my PCP do it to save money? I would like to have positive results before I try to see an LLMD out of state, that will cost lots of money, and take months to get in and see. I just think all of this is odd. I have had to do all my own research and practically tell them what to look for. Finally after all these years, we are on a track at least, and not stranded in the desert. I have read a lot about Lyme, watched documentaries, and am very convinced that this is what I have.
Can some of you share with me your major symptoms? That would be great, so I can compare.
Thanks,
