Yes, please try 5htp. It gets converted directly into serotonin, and maybe that's what you're low on.

Serotonin = the happy hormone.

Another thing - there's another recent post that said "if you're feeling super sad while on mepron, you should take a short break, and then go back to it after a few days. Don't force yourself, because the depression can be debilitating." (that was paraphrased). I don't know where to find that thread, but it might be helpful.

Babesia flares every 4 days I believe.

If it were me, I'd take a couple of days off.

When treating Babesia, I have a very tough time with the insomnia, anxiety, and also getting weepy, too.

So it isn't in your head. I suspect the infection is definitely responsible and is wrecking havoc on things.

It's miserable, I know. Hang in there, go easy on yourself, and don't feel like you cannot take a break -- it can really help.

tricia386 SamE amd 5HTP, stop a few days and go back slowly...worked for me. Now I have liver pain and diarrhea so have to stop and detox again. The depression lifted sinificantly when I stopped a day last week, went smaller doses and added SamE and 5HTP.

I hope you feel better !

I have gotten the same sobbing. wailing reaction early on when i started taking antiparasitic herbs and salt/c.

I knew it was a herx and just tried to go with it. It is another way that the body releases toxins. Try not to worry about it so much and just let your body release the poison. [Smile]

this may sound overly simple but chamomile tea has taken me out of some really serious herxes. It is almost instantaneous.
There are other "herbal" options that can take you from the depths of despair, but I will refrain from recommending them since they aren't fool proof medical options. But they are options that do exist.

tricia,
Mino gives me serious brain flares. I think the drug itself is neurotoxic. My llmd backs me off of it until it passes and cuts my dose. He doesnt' believe that "forcing" treatment is productive.

Please let your llmd know that you would like to either cut the dose in half and/or take a break until this subsides.

We don't have to be heroes in this lyme battle.

Oh also, I'm allowed to take benedry up to 4 x a day for herxing. It somehow cuts into the cytokine storm. It really works for me. Also, it may help you sleep.

Check with your doc?

tricia, I think you should ask your doctor for some short term relief in the form of authentic anxiety medication such as Xanax or a mood stabilizer such as Lamictal. You need some assistance - far more help then you can achieve with 5 htp or tea.

Where's your evidence that 5htp is weaker than the prescription SSRIs? The only side-by-side trials in existence show that 5htp is more beneficial, works faster, is non-addictive, and has FAR less side effects.

No advice, just sending a hug [group hug]
Sorry you are struggling so badly.
In my worst moments I try to remind myself that it won't last forever. It's hard when you're in it though. Wishing you relief.
