My 30 yr old pregnant daughter's C4a just came back at over 64,000. She has a positive Lyme and she has the "mold" HLA genotype. Has anyone else had a C4a this high? If so, what was the cause? She is almost 15 weeks pregnant and has had two previous miscarriages. Additionally, her mom (me) was diagnosed with Lyme in July 2010. My C4a is just over 3,900 and I have the 15-6-51 HLA genotype. Her dad's Lyme is "indeterminate" but he has the mold genotype as well, with a C4a of just over 10,000. Does anyone have any experience with Lyme and pregnancy? How is Lyme treated during pregnancy? Our doctor is great, brilliant, but has never treated a pregnant Lyme patient before. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help!

My last C4a was over 57,000. I was treating and herxing for Babesia at the time.
I increased the antioxidant/anti-inflammatory herbs and supplements in my protocol, and it made a huge difference. I won't be retested until November, but I can tell that I'm much less inflamed, especially in my brain.
I took Quercetin, Turmeric, Green Tea Extract, Pomegranate, Fish Oil, Vitamin C, Magnesium, Glutathione and I don't remember what else.
Pregnant Lyme patients stay on antibiotics during pregnancy. This significantly lowers the risk of fetal infection through the placenta. Your doc can learn which abx are safe during pregnancy.
Your doc should know/learn of some ways to safely reduce inflammation during pregnancy, too. Infections and inflammation increase risk of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Merrygirl on this board just had a healthy baby. Hopefully, she will have time to reply here.
Don't panic, but your daughter must take action to ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Thanks BoxerMom---hopefully Merrygirl will see this and respond. I have learned in the past couple of days that pregnancy can actually raise the C4a level, but I don't know how much....certainly not to the level that my daughter's is at. Our doc did give her a prescription for Amoxicillin 1000 mg q6h for the next four weeks. (from Dr. B's protocol) He wants to see how she does on that. She can't swallow large capsules, so she's having to take the liquid antibiotic. I've heard though, that Dr. B's protocol for pregnancy is "outdated" and that Dr. J actually has a better protocol for pregnant patients. Not sure---need someone who has already walked this path! Thanks for your help!
