I have read tons of Mercola articles. For the most part I think his research is fantastic.

Mercola says that he has trained and known Dr. K (ART) for a long time. Does anyone know if he treats Lyme and what protocol he uses? Is there any success stories!?

I would think with the sphere of influence he has his treatment would be good?

He's in Illinois, I think, but I haven't heard anything about him treating Lyme. He's a self promoter, so I don't think he'd be motivated to put his neck on the line.

No doubt he is a self promoter. He will tell you he has trained under Kling... and is friends with him.

He has interviewed Dr. K and others and published non mainstream theory stories?

I have not heard anything on any forums?

His website and daily emails are very positive and informative. (whether you like Mercola or not)

We cant get upset that there's a lack of health awareness but at the same time nitpick over a guy providing the information.

I agree... what he is advocating can save your life. He is trying to inform the sheep that their ways of life are killing them.

He feels confident in his products and feels comfortable with people taking them. Yes, there is a monetary gain, but he is also positively impacting many lives.

I heard Mercola is one of the top health websites in the US. It gets over 100,000 hits daily.

That said, I have never bought an item from him. My Mom has been on Biothin and is sleeping better and feeling better. This is the only supp she is taking.

Exactly.

I don't think he's even a practicing MD.

Here's his background. http://www.mercola.com/forms/background.htm

I am thankful he gave up his practice to do what he does. He pushes for awareness of things like mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings. He's had interviews with Dr. K. He's a real help against the medical establishment and since he doesn't practice, he answers to none of the organizations that we know control what the docs say/do.

IMO, he has to make money somehow, so if he sells a few products he believes in, good for him. My husband is in sales, that's how we pay our bills, too. Every product we use has to be sold by someone ... as long as they're open that they're making a profit, who cares if they're selling stuff?

On that note, Six, I must say I agree with your take on sales!

But I do take Dr M's info with a healthy grain of salt.

Well at this point after more than 5 years into this nightmare I take everything anyone says with a healthy grain of salt.

Dr. M. isn't the only one selling products. And I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing. I truly believe that whatever a practitioner is offering is what he or she believes to be the best/purest product.

On that note, pureformulas dot com has many/most of the same products that LLMDs/LLNDs recommend at a discount and offers coupons along with no sales tax and free shipping (and no I'm not affiliated in any way).

I personally have found Dr. M's articles to be very compelling and interesting. He is someone who thinks outside the box which I very much appreciate.

Per LN rules please remove this doc's last name and substitute his initial.

The only problem is that Dr. M literally recommends hundreds and hundreds of products. This is very confusing to us all. And he goes into such detail about how every last one of them is specially prepared like no other in the world- and this is simply not true. Its too much hype and too much of a hard sell and its potentially dangerous. j

Well Jeremy the only thing I can tell you is every freaking thing associated with TBD is a problem.

And there are hundreds of products as you say. And there are hundreds more variations of those products as well, which is why we all need to educate ourselves.

As for your take on the "hard sell" all I can say is that I've read many of Dr. M's articles and was never directed to a site selling products.

Yes, it's all very confusing. Welcome to Lymeworld.

But the "confusion" isn't because of Dr. M. The "confusion" is because of the war between ISDA and ILADS.

EVERY aspect of these damn diseases is dangerous. Perhaps the most dangerous aspect is a sick person going to a doc who tells him or her that he or she doesn't have LD b/c there is no rash and/or the ELISA is negative.

I don't think Dr. M's approach is better or worse than other docs. As patients and/or parents of sick kids going through serious health crises we owe it to ourselves to look into everything.

I don't think the main problem on lyme treatment is ONLY due to the war between ILADS and ISDA. This is just one little part of the lyme problem.

Suppose the main guidelines for lyme become ILADS.

Are all our lyme treatment issues solved then?

In my opinion, we are still FAR from solving chronic lyme, even following ALL ILADS guidelines.

my opnion after reading this forum for so many years...
--------------

Dr. M. does have a clinic and his staff sees people (I suppose he does, sometimes?). But he says his focus is NOT on degenerative diseases, chronic infections or life-threatning diseases.

His focus is in disease prevention! How to take control of your health and avoid catastroph. So he's an advocate for exercise, healthy food habits, EFT, main daily supplementation etc.

You can see that anyone with crhonic lyme can't apply even the mildest form of his suggested exercise protocol (Peak 8) without a big collapse!! [Big Grin]

He is not focused on chronic infection treatment, even though he's good friends with dr. K.

As you should. He references his sources, they should be looked at. He only sells things he believes in and doesn't accept outside advertising to support his page so that he's free to do that. I think everything he sells, he does believe in, but references should still be considered.

Yeah, I get the emails as well and also don't like the hard push to buy his products. The interview I listened to the other day had him trying to lead the person he was interviewing to a certain conclusion which would promote one of his products. I guess that's understandable as he is running a business and that's how he makes his money, but it's still irritating. Kind of like the new people who took over the PTO at my child's school. They are constantly badgering parents about donating every chance they get. But, that's a different topic :-)

I do still glance through Dr. M's articles, though, and try to filter out the product marketing. It's hard to do, though, because it's very product centric.

All i can tell you is that I used one of his cleanses once prior to getting proper tx from an LLMD and had a ridiculous die off of the psychiatric kind. Oure misery. Whatever was in that stuff was doing something...though I am leaning towards the fact that it may have been parasitic.

I'm just thankful for anyone willing to stick their neck out for medical care that is alternative, or in any way goes against the establishment. There are options for Lyme, as well as for other diseases and he helps educate people to those options. If you were new to diagnosis, and you came upon an article on his website, at least you'd be getting some good info, different from what your pcp or ID doc would give you.

I THINK he does! I have a friend who lives in IL, who kept telling me to come for a week so she can take me to see Dr. Mercola! But I never took her up on the offer. She really likes him though...
